36th Arkansas Infantry

James Madison Davie was born in Person County NC on 13 Dec. 1830. He was a Doctor and formed Capt. Davie's Co. McRae's Regiment. on 24 June 1862. It was 70 miles to rendezvous. This became Co A 36th Ark. Inf. He was promoted thru the ranks to full Colonel on 24 Dec. 1863. He was wounded at the battle of Helena Ark. while serving in the 3rd rigade, Price's Division. He married 3 times. His third wife Sarah Thomas 1855 - 1904 was my 3rd cousin 4 x removed.

Am just beginning my research and would be interested in any information on this unit.

Private Bookout has some contoversy but in war things gits confusing.

James L. Jackson joined the unit in July 1862 at Springfield, Ark. I believe the other two Jacksons who joined that day were his brothers Thomas F. and George W. Jackson.

Alsten was born 22 Jan 1830 in Greene County Alabama. He is found in Prairie County Arkansas where his 1st wife Margaret Turner Bradford died there 20 Mar 1859. He enlisted and mustered at Little Rock on 23 June 1862 and was elected as 1st Lieut. Enlisting in Capt. Townsend's Company. McRay's Regiment. He was soon promoted to Capt., but that date is unknown. His health began to deteriorate, and he was diagnosed with Hepatitis. On 2 Sept he was absent sick at Camp Hope Ark and on 11 Nov 1862 he was medically discharged. He died 11 Dec 1875 in Brackettville, Kenny County Texas. Buried in the Ballantyne Cem. in that town.
