Benjamin Crippen - Private |
Benjamin Crippen joined with his older brother, John 'Hunter' Crippen in 1861. Ben was only fourteen, but was large for his age. According to Company E survivor William Francis Eppes, Ben was shot in battle (presumably Shiloh) and Eppes and his brother put him under a tree. When Eppes returned to the tree later, the tree had taken fire and Ben was missing. No one heard from him and the family assumed he was buried in an unmarked grave.
