William M. Beasley, from Barbour Co., AL before the Civil War fought in Co. E, 39th. AL Reg, and was wounded in the left shoulder on Sept. 19, 1863, in the Battle of Chicamauga, according to Confederate Pension applications submitted in Pike Co. and Bullock Co. between 1895 and 1899.

John died from wounds received in 1864 near the battle of Atlanta and is buried in milner GA. Confederate cemetary. ,the train he was being transported on collided with another train on way to hospital near milner. Any other ancestors of the 39th infantry welcomed to email me at riser9841@gmail.com. I'm Richard Carden my ancestors GGG son .

John Carden came from Russell County Al,John died of wounds received in 1864 and is buried in a cemetary in Milner Ga. His middle name or initals is a mystery I have some records that it started with a D. He had a wife named Leah and had two sons named William and Benjamin Carden who resided after the war in Twiggs county Georgia.

Service records lists him as Isaac Falkner. He enlisted at Opelika, Alabama in 1862. He died Jan 12, 1902 and his widow Nancy Falkner filed the pension application in Blount County, Alabama on Aug 25, 1902.

Enlisted Apr 5, 1862 in Russell Co. Ala by Wm C. Clifton. He was “wounded in battle Chickamauga. He was wounded a 2nd time (severely) on Dec 31, 1862. Applied for a Confederate pension (16241) in Panola Co., TX in June 1909.

Nathaniel Culpepper enlisted @ Opelika, Alabama May 1862. He was 21. In July 1862 (Two months)he died of the mumps in Chicopee, Mississippi, where he is buried. He was one of four brothers who fought for the South, including my great, great grandfather Benjamin Franklin Culpepper, who enlisted Jul 1864 in Pemberton's Cavalry, Muscogee County, Georgia. He migrated to Alabama circa 1867.

Quincy Stanford was fatally wounded in a charge on an artillery battery at Murfreesboro (Stones River)on 31 Dec 1862. He died 1 Jan 1863.

Killed,Chickamauga (19 Sep 1863)

During Deas' advance, Sergeant James of Company H felt a sharp pain in his lower leg. Looking down, he noticed with fright that he had been hit with a bullet. Sergeant James fell out of line, and headed away from the battle to find a hospital. A passing cavalryman lifted Sergeant James onto his horse and rode the sergeant to the brigade hospital.

Doctor S. W. Jones of the 39th Alabama staff was at the brigade hospital. Soon, Private Thomas DeShaver of Company H was brought in the hospital on a stretcher; shot through the leg as well. Sergeant James, Private DeShaver, and Dr. Jones made light of the situation, and Sergeant James recalls the three laughing, as Sergeant James insisted that the doctor cut off DeShaver's leg 'right then and there'. The two men were stabilized by the doctor, when a flood of new wounded called the doctor away temporarily. Dr. Jones assured the two men that he would attend to them as soon as possible.

When Dr. Jones returned a few moments later, Sergeant James shook Tom DeShaver to revive him. He couldn't, for DeShaver had lost too much blood and had died. Soon, another comrade, Private Theodore Floyd, arrived at the hospital, shot in the mouth. Private Floyd wasn't so lucky. He 'hanged on' for a couple of days in tremendous agony and pain before he expired.

After the bloodshed of the day was over, the federal army withdrew from the field. The men of the Army of Tennessee had won an impressive, hard-fought victory, but had paid a terrible price. Of the 310 infantrymen that carried a rifle into battle for the 39th that day, 13 were killed during the assault, and 76 were wounded; eighteen of the killed and wounded being in Louis's company, Company I. One officer of the 39th was killed (Lieutenant W. T. Mitchell of Company F), and 6 more were wounded (including Captain Willis Banks of Company F with a bullet wound in both thighs). The 39th, in action for a total of roughly thirty minutes, lost nearly a third of it's number, including the forgotten heroes, Privates Thomas DeShaver and Ted Floyd.'

My second cousin six times removed. Enlisted as a Private on March 10 1862 at Clayton, Barbour County Alabama. Confederate Medal of Honor Battle of Murfreesboro. Promoted to 2nd Sergeant in 1863. Elected 2nd Lieutenant in January 1864. Paroled on May 22 1865 at Montgomery Alabama. Height: 5' 10', light hair, grey eyes, dark complexion. Died January 1878, Dale County Alabama.

William was captured in Nashville December of 1864. He was transfered to a prison at Camp Douglas, Illinois until wars end.

John A. Wells is listed in records of Confederate service as having served in Company K of the 39th Alabama. He later moved to Georgia where his son married Ella Victoria Johnson, daughter of Peter Johnson of Company E of the 61st Georgia.
