Andrew Jackson Lee was my 3d great grand uncle. He enlisted 12 June 1862 in the 38th Alabama Infantry, he was discharged 4 Jan 1865. He was the son of Greenberry Lee and Martha Jane Taylor Lee. He died 6 Mar 1872 and is buried in South Butler Cemetery, McKenzie, Butler County, Alabama. His brother William Lunsford Lee also served in the 38th Alabama Infantry.

William Lunsford Lee was my third great grand uncle. He enlisted 12 Feb 1863, I do not have his date of discharge. His parents were Greenberry Lee and Martha Jane Taylor Lee. He was born 20 Dec 1834 and died 14 Aug 1914. He is buried in Bushfield Cemetery (I have also seen a photo where the cemetery is named Bethel Cemetery) in Covington County Alabama. His brother Andrew Jackson Lee also served in the 38th Ala. Infantry.

Pvt. John C. Green was my Grandfather. He was wounded and captured at Atlanta, sent to Camp Chase Ohio and survived the war. He was from Monroe County, AL.

1833 - 1916

He was captured at the Battle of Atlanta on July 22, 1864 and imprisoned at Camp Chase, Ohio until the end of the war.

I am trying to find some information on this relative, such as where he may have been killed during war, and, if there is any info on his burial location.

Lewis and his brother Thomas died of disease in Mobile, AL 10/31/1862. That means he probably missed muster on that date. Anyone who knows where to find medical or hospital records of those who died in Mobile during the early Fall of 1862 please contact me.

John was captured at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee on November 25, 1863. He was sent to Rock Island Prison and was released on Oath, June 21, 1865.

John was married to Susan Chandler and had 8 children. John, Susan and family moved to Cherokee county Texas where he died in 1914.

John's brother James also served in the Civil War but I do not know any details about him.

James was about 35 when he enlisted at Clark City, Ala. on 5 April 1862 for 3 years or the war. He was wounded by Gunshot [Mini Ball] at Battle of Chicamauga,Tenn. on 20 Sep 1863. [ Clayton's Brigade, Stewart's Division. Survived, recovered and rejoined his unit. Capture p April 1865 at Fort Blakley, and sent to Ship Island Miss.. Paroled at Meridian, Miss. on 9 May 1865. Of the original 850 men only 80 were present at Parole. He was the Father in Law of my 2ns cousin 4 x removed. DEO VINDICE

In 1862, Samuel join the 38th Alabama Inf.
from Clarke County, Alabama. His occupation was teamster for which he was paid
25 cents a month. He was captured November 25, 1863 at Missionary Ridge, TN
during the Battle of Chattanooga. He was then confined at Rock Island, IL. He
was in the first group of prisoner to be sent to Rock Island, Il. On May 03,
1865 Samuel was sent to New Orleans to be released as an exchange prisoner.

My 2nd great grandfather on my father's side (Underwood)

ENLISTED IN 1862 WITH HIS BROTHERINLAW W.A.J.HODO FROM CONECUH CO,ALABAMA

Wounded and discharged 1864. Came back to Conecuh County. Buried Old Town Cemetery.

Wounded at Lookout Mountain, November 1863, captured and sent from hospital to hospital until he wound up in Nashville, Tn. Died the day after Christmas, December 26, 1863. Buried in Confederate Circle, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. His headstone incorrectly states he was in Company I and is exactly one year off on his injuries and death date.

ENLISTED 1862 FROM CONECUH CO, ALABAMA

Captured battle of Nashville December 1864. Sent to Camp Chase Ohio, arriving 6 January, 1865. 16 years of age, turned 17 on 5 February, died 28 February, buried Camp Chase, Ohio.

Entered service September 1862 at Sparta, Conecuh, Alabama.
Wounded at Chickamauga. Captured along with his baby brother at the battle of Nashville, December 1864. Sent to Camp Chase arriving 6 January, 1865. Paroled 13 June, 1865.

my great-great grandfather was the commander of Company I (Alabama Grays) and was wounded at Chickamauga and again near Lovejoy Station. He previously served in Company D, 2nd Alabama and Company A, 42nd Alabama. His younger brother Robert served the Shorter Guards (90 Day Volunteers) and Company D, 3rd Alabama Cavalry. Charles is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Oakton, Kentucky.

Addison was born 1841 Near Coffeeville, Clark Co. Ala. Probably enlist when Regiment was formed at Mobile, Ala May 1862. I Nov 1862 while at Mobile, Ala. he was on detached duty as a Nurse at Regimental Hospital. He served most of his active duty as a Teamster. Paroled at Demopolis, Alabama 16 June 1865. He was the Father in Law of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

John Pugh Seabrook was my great-grandfather and was 'honorably mentioned along with several others' at the battle of Chickamauga. Was briefly promoted to 1st LT of Co. I when 1st LT M J Gordon was killed. Wounded at Battle of Chattanooga (Missionary Ridge),lost an arm. Was in at least 8 yankee pow camps and participated in two of the last battles of the Civil War, Spanish Fort and Blakeley both East of Mobile, AL.

Died in 1925 at the home of his son Isaac Teeters of Van Buren AR. and is buried in Fort Smith , AR.

Pvt. George Washington Gibbs, Company K, 38th Regiment Alabama Infantry, was captured at the battle of Missionary Ridge, Tennessee on November 25, 1863. He entered Rock Island Prison in Illinois as a prisoner of war on December 11, 1863, and died there on March 3, 1864 from typhoid fever. He is buried in the Rock Island Confederate Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. George was born in 1843 to R. G. Gibbs and Sarah Ann Kite Gibbs. He was one of seven brothers who fought for the CSA in the Civil War. Two brothers, Richard Henry 'Ransom' Gibbs and Caswell Kite Gibbs, also died in the Civil War. George was my great uncle.

Enlisted in Tuscaloosa at the age of 14, mustered with the rest in Mobile. Captured near Decatur, Ga in the Atlanta campaign. He was wounded during the Resaca battle 2 mini-balls struck his right leg 1 in thigh and other in hip(amazingly did not lose his leg) and captured and taken to Camp Chase Ohio released at the end of the war. Him and his wife Mary lived in Belle Sumpter, Jefferson Co. until his death July 8, 1905. I am so very pround to be his great-great grandson and for as long as I live he will be honored as a hero!

He served with the CSA during the Civil War as a 1st Cpl. with Co., K, 38th AL Infantry, was wounded and captured at the battle of Chickamauga. He was awarded the Confederate Medal Of Honor for his bravery at the battle of Chickamauga. Note: The different spelling of his surname and middle initial.
