John S Hood - Private
John S. Hood, the oldest son of Captain Stephen R. Hood, enlisted in the 22nd Alabama Infantry, Company D (Cherokee Beauregards) in 1861. He was 16 years old. His unit was based in Mobile in 1861 and early 1862 and then sent to Corinth, Mississippi where it joined Gladden's Brigade. The the 22nd Alabama then participated in the bloody Battle of Shiloh with very heavy loss. Private Hood was seriously wounded at Shiloh on April 6, 1862, but was evacuated to Corinth and later to a Confederate hospital in Macon, Mississippi. He died there in early June 1862 and was buried in the Noxubee Cemetery near Macon. John Hood was my great great uncle.

Stephen Reed Hood - Captain
Stephen R. Hood helped organize Company D (Cherokee Beauregards) in Cherokee County, Alabama in 1861 and was elected its first Captain. The unit was based in Mobile in 1861 and early 1862 and was then sent to Corinth, Mississippi. Due to his age and health, Captain Hood resigned on January 10, 1862. He then returned to his career in the ministry. Reverend Hood was the first minister of the Advent Christian Church in north Alabama.

According to William Elijah Hogan's bible records:

Irvin was born in Calhoun county, Alabama on April 21, 1845. Enlisted into E Co. at the age of 16. Lost right arm on July 28, 1864 from wounds sustained during the Battle of Atlanta. Paroled on May 24, 1865 by the U.S. Army. Died in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana December 3, 1920.

Irvin D. Hogan's parents were John C. Hogan and Nancy Deal. His grandfather was William Elijah "Storm Daddy" Hogan. He married a Nancy Hammet, daughter of Jessie M. Hammet and Betsy Warren Hammet, in February 1866. His children with Nancy Hammet were William Elijah "Lige", Orlando Waters, and Fannie. All three were born in Cleburne county, Alabama.

Census records indicate that he may (handwriting illegible) have been a hotel keeper in Cleburne county, Alabama at the time of the 1880 census.

Upon release after the war he walked home to Pike County Alabama His wife was Nancy Jackson also of Pike Co. After the war he moved his family to Westville Fl where he and Nancy are buried . I am a great Great grandson of his and I have visited his grave .

William David Missildine - Private
William David Missildine was one of five sons of Robert Frances Missildine who all served in the Confederacy, four of them in the 22nd Alabama. He was captured at Resaca, Georgia and spent the rest of the war in Alton Military Prison in Alton, Illionis. Two of his brothers were captured at different times and were prisoners, but they all survived the war. William David was the father of 23 children, the youngest of whom was my grandfather, Ariel David Missildine.
