Campbell Virdell Gemes - Private |
Campbell Virdell Gemes(aka James) enlisted in July 1861 at Tallasee, Alabama. He was present at the Siege of Yorktown, 1862/04/10-1862/05/03, from above date to and including Chanceloorsville, 1863/05/03. He was captured at Gettysburg, 1863/07/01, but I'm not sure when he was released. After the war he relocated to Bartow Co, GA.
He enlisted with his brother, Benjamin James, and I believe his sister Emaline went with them as laundress. Muster reports show a female James laundress and neither of them were married when they enlisted.
