Agusta James Marion Moore - Private |
James was born in Fayette Co. Ga. he was about 20 years old when he joined the fight in repulsing the invaders in August 1862 at Rock Mill Alabama. He served the entire war. Fought at Saltville, Va Dalton Ga and was wounded at Griswoldvile Ga. and taken prisoner. He was treated for his wounds at a union hosp. and was paroled there on 15 May 1865. He spoke of his good treatment at the hosp. and credited the union surgeon for saving his leg. Family lore has it that while on picket duty at Dalton he saw his father on the other side [ had joined the union ] and they sat and talked for a while before departing. James is the husband of my 3rd cousin 4x removed.

On the muster roll, he signed his name as F.S. Jenkins. He didn't surrender. He 'just went home' as he told my grandfather. I still have his Enfield Rifle.
