Newton Bolivar De Arman - 1st Lieutenant
|
Newton, nickname Bunk, and his brother James Tipton served in this unit and the 62nd Alabama Infantry. Newton also was at the Camp of Instruction, Talladega, Alabama. They are buried at the De Armanville Methodist Church Cemetery in De Armanville, Calhoun County (then Benton County) Alabama. Both brothers survived the war.

He then desersted from this command and joined a band of Union Gurrellas in Northern Alabama under a man he called 'Captain Stewart'Thay resestied against the Confederates and helped other local Union Men get through the lines so thay could enlist into the Union army.

Also served in 8th Alabama Cavalry, Co. C (Livingston's Regiment) as Private. Wounded at Battle of Vicksburg and sent to Shelby Springs Confederate Hospital. Died on 19 March 1864 in Shelby Springs Confederate Hospital, Shelby County, Alabama. Burial is at Shelby Springs Confederate Cemetery (Old Soldiers Grave Yard), Shelby Springs, Shelby County, Alabama.

Benjamin was 17 when he enlisted in the new unit formed in April 1864. Joining with Hatch's Battalion. Under command of General Pillow. Saw heavy action at Lafayette, & Rome Georgia. Moved to West Florida. Surrendered at Gainsville Fla. The data for Benjamin comes from the Pension Application submitted by his 2nd wife Frances J Pearl. He died in Lamison, Alabama on 28 Oct 1906. He was my 6th cousin.
