Newton, nickname Bunk, and his brother James Tipton served in this unit and the 62nd Alabama Infantry. Newton also was at the Camp of Instruction, Talladega, Alabama. They are buried at the De Armanville Methodist Church Cemetery in De Armanville, Calhoun County (then Benton County) Alabama. Both brothers survived the war.

Burial is at Shelby Springs Confederate Cemetery (Old Soldiers Grave Yard), Shelby Springs, Shelby County, Alabama.

He was my 6th cousin.

This regiment was made up of men from Alabama & Mississippi. It was also known as the 2nd Regiment, Miss & Ala. Cavalry, Pope Walker Battalion Miss. Cav. Formerly: Beall's Battalion, Ala Cav. Brewer's Battalion Ala Cav & Miss. 4th Cavalry Battalion [Baskerville's]. The consolidation's and restructuring continued as in May 1862 it is redesignated 8th Confederate Cavalry [Wade's Regiment]
The information on Jacob comes from his pension file. He was born 17 Feb in Ruckersville, Elbert Co. Georgia. IN 1860 he is 14 years old in Nixburg, in Coosa County, Alabama. He enlisted at about age 17 in Jan 1862 at Youngsville, Alabama, Tallapoosa County, later renamed Alexander City. Enlisted in Co I. Capt. John Wright's Company. Battles: Shiloh, Shelbyville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Atlanta Campaign. Wheeler's raid into Tenn. Wounded at Statesboro in 1864. I have not found his archival records.
Jacob died in Dutton, Jackson County Ala, on 6 Aug 1927. Buried in the Pleasant Hill Cem at that place. We are related thru a distant marriage on my Chapman line.
