EVANS, CHARLES ALEXANDER - Enlisted at Fort Gaines, Alabama, September 7, 1861. Wounded at Shiloh, Tennessee, April 6, 1862. Absent sick at Tyner's Station, Tennessee, October 1862 roll. Sent to hospital at Rome, Georgia, October 20, 1863. Captured at Atlanta, Georgia, September 3, 1864. Released from Camp Douglas, Illinois, May 18, 1865.

Elijah was born Nov 1844. He as 21 cards in his archival file. Enlisted 1 Nov 1862 from Conecuh Co. Ala. for the war. Served in General Dea's Brigade. He fought at Murfreesboro and was captured at Missionary Ridge 25 Nov 1863. He was sent to Louisville, Ky and on to Rock Island prison camp in Illinois. Their is one source that mentioned exchange however I find no document to prove that. He took the oath [ swallowed the yellow dog] on 19 June 1865. He married my 3rd cousin 4 times removed Margarete Elizabeth 'Mary" Wilkinson. They are buried at Fairview Cem. Richards, Grimes Co. Texas.

Enlisted 14 Nov 1862. Wounded at Murfreesboro. Xfrd to Gilmer Hospital and died 23 Mar 1863. Buried Chattanooga TN Confederate Cemetery.

Enlisted 7 Sep 1861 Montgomery in 1stBatt Ala Inf Reg Co B (Loomis), incorporated into 25th Ala Inf Reg CoB. Wounded at Murfreesboro. Captured at Missionary Ridge and ended up at Rock Island. Discharged 27 May 1865

William Robert Stringfellow was born September 4, 1823, and died November 9, 1901.He is buried in Clay Co.,Alabama,at a cemetery off Pole Bridge Road.When William Robert's tombstone began to show much distress from time and the elements, his grandson,Herman V.Stringfellow and some helpers, bought a new stone, and erected it at Robert's grave.

Albert Gallatin Watson enlisted March 22, 1862. He was wounded in the Battle of Peachtree Creek (north of Atlanta) and lost most of his arm. His one surviving grandson tells us that he was put on a boxcar with other dying men, and sent into the city of Jonesboro, Ga. where a black couple happened to see him. They pulled him from the train and nursed him back to health. He survived the war and was retired from duty 12/29/64. The grandson remembers Albert wrapping the reins on his mule around his stump to plow his fields. He went on to become a Probate Judge and died in 1907. Buried in Talledega, Alabama.

William Jefferson Cates served in the 25th Alabama Infantry Company “I” during the War Between the States. He enlisted 14-Oct-1861 at Newoka, Alabama. Company I was organized at Oak Level then Calhoun, now Cleburne County and the 25th was organized into a Battalion by W. B. McClellan and mustered in the Confederate States Army by General McClellan at Newoka Campground, ten miles south of the City of Talladega. From Jun-1862 to Oct-1862 he was reported sick at Tyners station, Tennessee. 21-Feb-1863 he was paid $110.00 for service from 28-Feb to 31-Dec-1862. 10-Mar-1863 he left the hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and next appeared on a muster roll Sep & Oct-1863. From 10-Feb to 31-Mar-1864 he was noted on a Roll of non-commissioned officers and privates employed on extra duty at Sup. Ten., Army of Tennessee with the Nature of service: Teamster. Please add my ancestor, John Franklin Bowdoin

Enlisted as a 2nd Cpl. into Co.'K', promoted to a Sgt. Killed in action 12/31/1862 in the Battle of Murfreesboro, Tn. He was elected to the Confederate Honor Roll by his unit to represent them in this battle and posthumously awarded the Confederate Medal of Honor.

Wounded at Murfresboro. Born July26,1841. Dale Co.AL. Married Eliza Callwell, 24 Dec.1865.
