14th Texas Infantry

Native of Mainz, Germany. Enlisted February 24, 1862, in Marshall, TX, Clark's 14th Texas Volunteer Infantry, as 4th Sergeant. Was discharged under the Conscription Act on June 23, 1862 (36 years old). Reenlisted as a substitute on September 15, 1862; a private in Company A, 14th Texas Infantry, Randal's Brigade, Walker's Texas Division. Participated in the Red River Campaign of 1864, including the Battle's of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill (in Louisiana) and the Battle of Jenkins Ferry (Arkansas).

1880 - his occupation in Mansfield - Blacksmith shows father and mother from Switzerland Jacob Hungerbeeler (First_Last) Regiment Name 14 Texas Infantry Side Confederate Company A Soldier's Rank_In Private Soldier's Rank_Out Private Alternate Name Notes Film Number M227 roll 18 Jacob Hungerbeeler enlisted at Marshall, Texas, February 24, 1862. At the muster roll of October 31, 1862 he is shown as sick in hospital in Little Rock. The same notation appears on the muster report for November and December. Same for February, 1863, so this must have been lingering illness. On the March/April report he is shown as 'detailed in Regiment Quartermaster Dept' On the May/June, 1863 report the notation is 'Detailed in Regt. as blacksmith'. On the July/August, 1963 report he is listed without notation, but on the January/February, 1864 report this notation appears: 'Detailed Blacksmith in Brigade'. These records are to be found in a publication: 'Muster Rolls of the 14th Texas Volunteer Infantry 1862-1865' by Joan Cervenka Cobb. William Anthony Ellett was born 1 October 1842 in Sumter Co., Alabama. He came to Texas with his parents William and Kesiah (Winston) Ellett around 1850 settling in Harrison Co., Texas. In 1921 he attended a Confederate Reunion in Alabama and on the way he developed pneumonia. He died 30 October 1921 at a hospital in Shreveport, LA. [Note: He was residing in Mooringsport at the time of his death.]

A native of North Carolina, Robert died in Montague County, Texas on 14 March 1891.

Buried in in the Oakwood Cemetery in Ft Worth, TX December 1935. Looking for more information on the unit.

KIA Jenkins' Ferry

W B Farmer was honorably discharged at the end of the War between the States. He served in the Confederate E 14 Regiment - Infantry from 1861 to the end of the war. He enlisted in Smith County, Texas and was discharged at Hempstead, Texas.

James Perryman is my great great grandfather. Born Nov 16, 1836 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Enlisted in the Confederate Army in April, 1862, near Tyler, Smith County, Texas, as private in Company E. Fourteenth Texas Infantry, Clark's Regiment, Randall's Brigade, Walker's Division, Trans-Mississippi Department. J. J. Flinn, first Captain, and Clark, first Colonel. Was in several skirmishes, but never in regular battle. Was promoted from private to Orderly Sergeant. I was at home on furlough when Banks' Army was defeated; also had a battle with Gen. Steele's Army on Saline River at Jenkin's Ferry.'

Stephen Glynn Carroll was born 5 AUG 1841 in Coweta County, Ga., the son of John Wesley Carroll(1815-1897) and Hulda Smith Hearne(1821-1856). He married Susan Celia Bullard in 1860 in Jackson Parish, La. and they moved to Upshur County, Texas where they lived the remainder of their lives and had 12 children including Delulah Alice Carroll.

John is believed to have been born in Missouri. He moved to Hamburg, Ashley Co. Arkansas. He married there and died and is buried there. In 1860 he is 18 years old and in Montague Co. Texas. [ It is unknown why he was there]. When the war broke out, he enlisted in that county in 18 Jan 1862 in Capt. D.S. Hagler's Co. His horse is valued at $75 and equipment $15. He has 19 items in his archival file. He is wounded slightly in his ankle at the battle of Murfreesboro. Captured at the Battle of Marietta, Cobb Co. Ga. on 18 June 1864. Sent as POW to Louisville, Ky and on to Camp Morton in Indianapolis, Ind. On 13 March 1865 he is transported for exchange from Camp Morton. Battles, Richmond, Kentucky, Murfreesboro, Jackson Miss, Chickamauga, Jenkins Farm, Atlanta Campaign. In March of 1862 the 14th became dismounted. He was the father-in-law of my 1st cousin 5 x removed. His wife Sarah Frances applied for and received a pension. Pension # 20115. John died 5 Mar 1903 and she applied for pension in 1917. She died 16 June 1928 in Hamburg, Ashley Co. Ark.

William G. Garrison enrolled Jan 16, 1862 at Pittsburg with Capt A. H. Rogers' Company, Clark's Regiment Texas Infantry. His occupation was a mechanic. He served approximately 3 years. (Capt. Augustus H. Rogers' later became a Major). William G. Garrison is my 2xgreat-grandfather.

Died Feb 1863 somewhere in vicinity of Pine Bluff, Ar. I can't find the camp where he was at that time. He was paid for travel expenses in Dec 10th-11th (2 days ration)1862 from Camp Bayou Metre to Little Rock,Ar. This money was received Dec 20,1862 by J. M. Jessup A.C.S at a Camp Palarm AR. Can't find Camp Bayou Metre or Camp Palarm in AR. I need to know what Camp he was in at his last Muster Roll. This was in Jan-Feb 1863, stating that he died on Feb 2, 1863.

He was known by his initials A.W.A. He mustered in on Feb.8 1862 at Smyrna, Tx, Listed as 22 years old, then later in month as age 24. He was actually 36 year old. This regiment participated in the Red River Campaign and the Camden Expedition. He was with his unit in April 1865 serving as a brigade headquarter teamster. After the war he returned to his home in Smith Co., Texas where he died in April 1869.

Hines Bishop, enlisted at Coldspring, Texas into Cavalry. Group changed to 14th Texas Infantry. Born in Simpson County, Mississippi. Married Susan Berry and resided in Robertson County, Texas.
