William was born 4 May 1845 and died 8 Mar 1936. Buried at Greenwood Cem.Marshall, Harrison Co. Texas. His record is taken from his wife's pension record. Enlisted at about age 17 in Co A McCray's Co. Cavalry where he served as a Dispatch Messenger. At some point he served under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest as noted on the gravestone application. It is known that this Co was a part of the 32nd Regiment Texas Cavalry and according to that Regimental History McCray's Co was transferred around July 1862 to the command of Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith. Some data related to this units action is contained in that Regimental history. He was married x 2 1st to his first cousin Mollie Scott who died in 1872. He remarried a Miss Della Welsh 20 Nov 1878 in Cass Co Texas. She is buried beside him in the Greenwood Cemetery.. God Rest his soul

Gilbert Cozart is most likely a close relative of the other Cozarts/Cozorts serving in Texas CSA units, and equally likely to be directly related to Henderson Cozart, who is considered a Texas Hero for his service in the Texas War of Independence from Mexico. He gave his life at the infamous Goliad Massacre in 1836. Gilbert is also undoubtedly directly kin to Thornton E. Cozart, 15th TX Cav, who died from illness at a CSA hospital in Tyler. Use a good search engine and type Thornton Cozart to find an incident involving letters from him to his pregnant wife, who tragically died in childbirth after making the rough journey from their home to visit him in the hospital (he died before she arrived).

John W. Pate served with his brother Joseph Pate in CO B 32 TEXAS CAVALRY. According to his widow's pension application, he served under Capt. Scott.

James Chozart/Cozart/Cozort/Chozort/Chazort/and the odd Chakzorp was apparently Joshua James Cozart from Madison Co., TN, brother of Gilbert Cozart and nephew of Thornton Cozart. There are records indicating James served at least briefly in the 1st Texas Cavalry Battalion and the 15th Texas Cavalry Regiment, as well as the 32nd (Crump's)Cavalry Battalion. James may have spent some time in an Engineer's group, also. He survived the War and returned home to marry and manage inherited lands in Tennessee.

Thomas N. Clifton was born in 1837 in Tennessee. Son of John Clifton and Acenith Welch who migrated from Missouri to Texas in 1840. Enlisted May 1862 with his cousins Thomas J. N. Clifton and Wilson A. B. Clifton. All served in Company D, 32nd Texas Cavalry. Pension Application 15531. Thomas N. Clifton fought against his uncle Sidney A. Clifton, 24th Missouri Infantry, at the Battle of Corinth, where Thomas N. Clifton was shot through the body but survived and his uncle Sidney Clifton was killed. The Missouri Cliftons and the Texas Cliftons no longer spoke to each other after that.

Thomas J. N. Clifton was born in 1841 in Missouri. Son of Wilson Clifton and Sarah Welch. Enlisted May 1862 along with his younger brother, Wilson A. B. Clifton, and cousin Thomas Nathan Clifton. All served in the 32nd Texas Cavalry in Company D.

Wilson A. B. Clifton was born in 1843 in Missouri. Son of Wilson Clifton and Sarah Welch. Enlisted May 1862 along with his older brother, Thomas J. N. Clifton, and cousin Thomas Nathan Clifton. All served in the 32nd Texas Cavalry in Company D.

Born in botetourt co. virginia 1838 moved to Sulpher springs Texas in 1859.Enlisted at camp crump in May of 1861 His grave can be found in Eureka Springs Ark.

1840-1863 Killed on 10 July during the Siege of Jackson, Mississippi.

As with lots of units at some time there apparenly was more than one 32nd cavalry. It's difficult to research.

A part of Ector's Brigade. Enlisted in Linden, TX in 1861. The 32nd Texas Cav was dismounted. Fought at Perryville, Nashville, Chickamauga, Kennesaw Mtn and Spanish Fort. He and his regiment were in the rifle pits before Spanish Fort and overtaken. Some men did not surrender and were clubbed or bayoneted. He was initially taken to Ship Island then to Vicksburg, released after the War.
