Buried in Guthrie Cemetery just outside of Lexington, Lee County, Texas.

Robert enlisted in the Confederate Army on December 15, 1861, at Camp Carter, Texas. The enlisting officer was a Lt. Sharks. He reported for duty at Camp Herbert, near Hempstead, Texas on February 26, 1862. The army issued him a horse (value of $125) and equipment (valued at $20). Robert served in company C of the 21st Texas Cavalry, 1st Texas Lancers, 1st Regiment of Carter's Brigade. The 21st was one of several true lancer regiments, actually carrying 9-foot lances into battle. This practice did not last long, but the 21st did retain its mounted status. The 21st Cavalry saw action in Arkansas, Missouri and Louisiana with (Rev.) Col. George W. Carter's & Col. William H. Parson's Brigade.

Ran was my GG GF. He was listed on the muster rolls as R.A. Matthews or Mathess.

Looking for any other information involved with regement. Had heard that they were fighting in Arkansas at the end of the war. Am looking for any information out there. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetary in Austin,TX. Would love to hear from anyone.

David A. Allen was born in June 1831 in Pennsylvania. He arrived in Brenham Tx in late 1860 or early in 1861. He mustered into the 21st Texas Cavalry,1st Texas Lancers,Carter's Brigade in 1862 at Camp Carter near Hempstead Texas. He served for the duration of the war and was surrendered by General E. Kirby Smith and signed his Parole of Honor in Galveston Texas on the 14th of July 1865. After the war David raised a large family in Brenham where he was engaged in the farming business and served as Postmaster from 1865 to 1876. David was persuaded by his youngest son to move to Kansas City in 1900 and died there on 22 January 1902. His remains were brought back to Brenham for internment at Praire Lea Cemetery where he lies at rest with his wife and other family members.

George was born in Madison County Mississippi on 29 June 1832.He enlisted on 15 March 1862 at Camp Carter near Hempstead TX. in 1st Texas Lancers / 1st Regiment Carter's Brigade. This became Co F 21st Texas Cavalry. It is 34 miles to his rendezvous. His horse is valued at $160.00 and equipment at $35.00. He has four cards in his archival file. He died 11 Sept 1924 in Austin, Travis County Texas. He is my 2nd cousin 4 x removed. Deo Vindice

Issac was born 20 Jan 1827 in Tennessee. the 1860 census finds him at age 38 in Precinct 3, Brazos County Texas. The Post Office is at Wheelock. He enlisted 22 Mar 1862 in Capt. L.J. Wilson's Company. at Boonville, Brazos County, Texas. His horse value is $140 and equipment $20. It is 50 miles to rendezvous. Became part of George Washington Carter's Regiment, Parson's Brigade which was organized 16 April 1862 at Camp Carter near Hempstead. While this unit was originally authorized as a Lancer Cavalry, the lances did not arrive. They provided valuable service by serving as scouts for Headquarters from Vicksburg to Louisiana. They were in some 50 minor skirmishes and were in Marmadukes Missouri Raid, Lost 5 dead and 4 wounded at Calcasieu Pass, Louisiana and also skirmished in Arkansas. He has 3 cards in his archival file and drew a pension for his service. He died 7 Jan 1891 and is buried at Peach Creek Cem, College Station, Brazos Co. Texas. He was the father-in-law of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed. He also served as a Pvt in the Mexican war. Co I 3rd Tennessee Vols.

James was born in Darlington County South Carolina in 1822. His family moved to Texas. He enlisted at age 40 in Carter's Brigade Mounted Vol's. on 15 Mar 1862 at Boonville, Brazos Co. Tx. for the war. His rank was 5th Sargant . His horse was valued at $150 and equipment $33. The rendezvous was 50 miles away. This unit was also known as 1st Texas Lancers. They took part in over 50 battles and skirmishes. worked as Pickets and scouts for the main army reporting on the movement of the northern army from Memphis to Vicksburg. The unit was disbanded before the surrender in 1865. He died 8 Nov 1904 and is buried beside his wife at Tyron Cem. Kurten, Brazos Co. Tex
