Not ancestor. I had the honor a few years ago of speaking at the dedication of his VA grave marker in Fairfield, Calif. It was a fine affair attended by the SCV/UDC. He was also a M.D. and died young of a sickness in 1874.

James was born 14 Nov 1839 in Georgetown Co. SC. He enlisted 19 July 1861 at White's Bridge in aforesaid Co. Enlisted as 1st Sergeant in Capt P.C. J. Weston's Co. SC Vols. He was promoted in the field on 13 March 1863 to 2nd Lieut. He has 22 cards in his archival file. He was wounded at Chickamaga on 20 Sept 1863 and again on 26 July 1864 near Atlanta, Ga. He is the father in law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed. He died 23 March 1875 and is buried at Duncan Memorial UMC Cem. in Georgetown CO. SC. Thank you for your service and my God grant you peace.

John was born in Georgetown Co. SC 6 June 1828. He enlisted at Whites Bridge in aforesaid county on 19 July 1861 in Captain P.C. J. Weston's Co aka " The Georgetown Rifle Guards" Unit became known as Walker's .He is 33 years old and has 23 cards in his archival file. A CMR card Nov/Dec 1862 shows his rank as Ordinance Sergeant. A Monthly Report dated 10 March 1863 at Shelbyville, Tenn. shows that the unit was granted a 50 day furlough by Gen. Bragg. at the time serving with Wither's Division Polk's Corps Army of Tennessee. Battles Munfordsville, Stones River, Murfreesboro, Chickamaga, Missionarry Ridge @ others. He died 30 Jan 1893 and is buried at Elmwood Cem. Georgetown, SC

Company A - Georgetown Rifle Guards Joinned July 1861 - resigned when company went west

Enlisted at White's Bridge, South Carolina, July 19, 1861 at age 20. Captured July 5, 1864 'near Chattahoochee River.' Arrived PoW Camp Morton, Indiana, July 14, 1864-February 26, 1865. POW # 7546. Transferred for exchange to City Point, Virginia, February 26, 1865, from camp hospital. He was suffering from malnutrition and possibly scurvy as well. Prisoners regularly ate rats or the garbage from the Union guards as the Federal government cut rations in retaliation for treatment of US prisoners in Confederate hands. 50 prisoners died on average every month. Transported by rail in unheated boxcar with 500 other sick POW's from hospital, during trip 5 more prisoners died.On arrival at Confederate lines at Petersburg, the liberated prisoners began to hobble towards their lines through no-man's-land, only to be stopped by the Rebel soldiers holding the sector-artillery shells had been planted as landmines and they had to be guided through a zigzag path through the minefield to safety. In Chimboarazo Hospital, Richmond, Va, when city fell to US troops April 3, 1865. Takes oath of allegiance and finally returns home to Conway, SC June 1865. Major battles present at- Mumfordsville, Ky. Murfreesboro, Tenn. Chickamauga, Ga. Chattanooga, Tenn. Resaca, Ga. Dallas/New Hope Church, Ga. Kenesaw Mountain, Ga.

My gggrandfather, Joshua Ammons, enlisted in Horry County, SC, and was killed in the Battle of Franklin, TN, December 15 or 16, 1864.

Died of disease in 1862 at Camp Marion, SC

Corp. Wm. T. Crawford 1829-1900 is buried at Johnson Cemetery, Horry SC. He married Sarah M. Johnson. He may be related to me but more research needed to conclude. He is very likely related to the David E. Crawford 1801-1866 family in Horry SC.

Died 1862. He is buried at the Confederate Cemetery in Gainesville, Alabama.

Capt. A.H. Johnson is buried at Johnson Cemetery, Horry SC. He was the son of Meshac Johnson & Rebecca Ray Johnson. His brother (Allen W. Johnson Co E, 26th SC Inf, CSA) was my GGG.

Sgt. Harmon Johnson is buried at Evergreen Cem., Murfreesboro, TN. Died of gunshot wounds. He was from Horry SC the son of Meshac Johnson & Rebecca Ray Johnson of Horry, SC. His brother (Allen W. Johnson Co E, 26th SC Inf., CSA) was my GGG.

Died of Typhoid fever in Atlanta, GA. Buried at Oakland Cem., Fulton, GA. He was from Horry, SC (brother of my GGG- Pvt. Allen W. Johnson Co E, 26th SC Inf, CSA). He was the son of Meshac Johnson & Rebecca Ray Johnson.

Cleland was born in Williamsburg, County SC in 1822. He was about 38 years old when he enlisted 14 July 1861 at Camp Marion, SC. He died at the 2nd battle of Murfreesboro Tenn. aka Battle of Stone River on the first day of battle on 31 Dec 1862. He is buried on the battlefield. He is the father in law of my cousin...

Edward Thomas Ray died on Oct 4, 1862 in Bardstown, KY and is buried in a mass grave at the Civil War Cemetery in Bardstown, KY.

Harrison was wounded at the Battle of Murfreesboro (Stones River), furloughed back home, and then deserted in 1863. He was an original member of the unit, enlisting at Whites Bridge, SC as a Pvt in 1861.

Enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant on 4 September 1861 at the age of 25. Promoted to Captain in November 1862. Detached as recruiting officer on 31 January 1863.

Also Listed as RS Holmes on rosters Killed in the battle of Atlanta. july 22 1864

John died in prison 24Apr 1865 at Rock Island,Ill.Buried at Rock Island Cemetery Marker # 1814. South Carolina State Archives & History.

Killed by a firing squad of Horry County citizens for taking some fresh ground grits to feed his starving family in 1865.

Drewry has four cards in his file. He enlisted in Capt. J. R. Nettles Co. South Carolina Vols. He was 27 years old. This unit mustered in at Georgetown SC on 19 July 1861 and became Co. H 10th Regiment SC Infanatry. He served thru and survived the the war Other family records state he was wounded at Gettysburg on 2 July 1863 , Captured on the 14th and paroled. He was discharged at Columbia SC due to battle wounds on 18 March 1864.

Confederate records sometimes spelled his name 'Spias.' He enlisted at Camp Marion, Georgetown, SC, 19 Jul 1861. He served until his death from disease on 15 Jun 1864, Macon, GA.

Albert was born 12 Jan 1842 in Marion Co. South Carolina. In 1860 the census has him at age 17 in Marion Co. SC. the post office is at Lynches Creek. He has 9 cards in his archival file. He was enlisted 23 Aug 1861 at Camp Marion by Col. A. M. Manigault into Capt. H N Lofton's Company know as [Swamp Fox Guards] He entered as a Pvt. on 1 July 1863 he is promoted to 3rd Sgt and on 21 April 1864 promoted to 1st Sgt. The 10th was known as one of the best drilled regiments in the army. Its roster listed 2189 men. The battles and skirmishes number 40 and begins April 29 - 30 May 1962 in Operations against the Union advance on and the siege of Corinth, Mississippi. Murfreesboro, Stone's River, Middle Tenn in Tullahoma Campaign, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Missionary Ridge, Dalton Ga. Atlanta Campaign, Resaca, Hope Church, Kenesaw Mountain, Pine Hills, Lost Mountain & Kolb's Farm Georgia. Battle of Atlanta and siege. Hoods Operation in Northern Georgia and Northern Alabama. Franklin & Nashville Tenn. Carolina Campaign at Averysborough & Bentonville. Albert died 9 June 1934 and is buried in the Aimwell Cem. at Pamlico, Florence Co. SC. He was the husband of my 4th cousin 4 x removed

This is my great great great grandfather. From what I know, he was discharged on account of rheumatism and then became a preacher.

William was born in Marion County, SC 25 Mar 1842. He enlisted as Private at age 18 in Capt. S.E. McMillan's Co. 10 Regiment SC Vols'. at White Bridge. Mustered at Camp Marion, SC on 13 Oct 1861 being enlisted by Col. Manigault. 31 Oct 1861 he is promoted to Corporal. This unit becomes Co L of the 10th Regiment. In Feb 1863 he is promoted to 1st Sergeant. 29 Sept 1863 he is seriously wounded at the battle of Chickamauga and is sent to the hospital by the surgeon. His records state that he was in the 1st Battalion of Infantry [Walker's] and also in early 1865 in the consolidated 19th Regiment SC Infantry. He died August 1900 and is buried Tranquil Methodist Cem. Marion, Marion Co. SC beside his wife Martha James who was my 3rd cousin 2 x removed.

Corp. David F. Collins served in Co. L, 10th SC Infantry, CSA. David was the son of John J. Collins & Elizabeth Wheeler of Ariel, Marion, SC. He was killed in the Battle of Georgetown, SC (date unknown). He is my GG-grand uncle via his older brother, Serg. John E. Collins Co. H, 1st SC Rifles, CSA (my GGG-grandfather). David F. Collins was from Ariel Crossroads, Marion, SC. His place of burial is unknown.

Pvt. Joel Burt Collins served in Co. L, 10th SC Inf., CSA. He was the son of John J. Collins (War of 1812 Vet) of Ariel Crossroads, Marion, SC. He was killed on Darbytown, Rd, Va, June 16, 1864 (just 19 days after his older brother John E. Collins Co. H, 1st SC Rifles, CSA died of gunshot wounds). Burial unknown. He was my GG-grand uncle via his brother J.E. Collins. He was one of 4 brothers that served in the CSA.

Pvt. David Harrison Crawford 1841-unknown death of Horry, SC enlisted with Co. M, 10th SC Inf., CSA. He was the son of David E. Crawford & Mary Jane Jordan Crawford of Horry. David was captured in Kentucky Sept. 15, 1862 & paroled Nov. 15, 1862 for exchange. He did survive the war & relocated to Tennessee after the war where he remained until his death. He is the brother of my GG-grandfather, John D. Crawford 1850-1906 of Horry, SC. David's burial unknown.

Serg. Samuel J. Crawford 1843-1862 of Galivants Ferry, SC (Horry) was only 19 when he died of disease September 6, 1862. He had already been promoted to the ranks of Sergeant at the age of 19, which is very admirable. He was the son of David E. Crawford & Mary Jane Jordan Crawford of Horry, SC. His unit (Co. M) was in Kentucky during the time of his death & he might be buried in Ky somewhere (burial unknown). He must have been a remarkable young man to have achieved the rank of Sergeant at such a young age. He was snuffed out so very young. Samuel Crawford has been memorialized at findagrave.com with some of his muster rolls, links & other info posted there also. (I can be found on facebook as Keith Edwards of Conway, SC).

Capt. DuBois was my great grandfather

Pvt. John Wesley Hucks 1819-1900 of Horry, SC served in Co. M, 10th SC Infantry, CSA. John W. Hucks was the oldest son of Thos Hucks & Margaret P. Squires also of Horry. He is the ancestor of Johnny Sessions & others. John W. Hucks is buried at Brown Swamp UMC in Horry, SC. He has a bronze flat Confederate marker. He is also memorialized at findagrave.com

Joseph M. King served in the US Civil War in CO.M, 10th Regt., SC Infantry. Enlisted Oct. 30, 1861 at Camp Marion, Co. reorganized May 1862 and temp. consolidated about April 10, 1865 and formed the SC Battalion Of Infantry (Walters); Paroled May 1, 1865 at Greensboro, NC as Cos. A and B, He was a sergeant for Co M under Captains WM. J. Tylor, J. P. Bessant and W. C. DuBois.

Pvt. Dennis Todd 1837-1865 of Horry, SC enlisted in Co. M, 10th SC Inf., CSA. He was married to his 2nd cousin, Mary Jane Todd 1833-1921 also of Horry. Dennis did survive the war only to be killed when he arrived home by an angry mob. The Dennis Todd Story is posted at HCHSonline.org. He was acused of taking a bag of grits to feed his starving family & was killed before arriving home. Such a sad end for a CSA Soldier that was defending his homeland for the very folks that murdered him.

Pvt. Hilliard Todd b. 1844, son of James Todd & Seamly Carter. was my gg-grand uncle via his brother, Pvt. Dennis Todd (who also served in 10th SC). Hilliard Todd is buried at Pondfield Cem. in Horry, SC.

Elected major of the 10th. Helped build fortifications around Georgetown, SC. Battery White in Georgetown, SC was named for him.
