Helped organized the Maysville Light Infantry on 17 Nov 1860 at Tar Heel, North Carolina. Promoted to full Captain 1 Jan 1862. Commander of Company B of the 36th North Carolina Light Infantry, the 'Bladen Stars.' Stationed at Fort Fisher. Taken prisoner after fall of Fort Fisher in Jan 1865 and sent to Governors Island, New York as POW.
Released at end of war and walked by home to North Carolina.
