Born 1823 Lincoln (now Catawba) County, NC. Enlisted Mar 16 1863 from Newton, NC and served as Pvt, 46th NC Infantry in the major campaigns in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania at Gettysburg. Captured with his regiment near Petersburg in March 1865 and held as POW in Maryland until released May 1865 after war's end. Lived after the war in old family home at Newton, NC where he died in 1907. Buried at St James Lutheran Church, Catawba County, NC.

Enlisted as a Private on 8 February 1862 at the age of 17. Enlisted in Company A, 46th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 16 April 1862. Received a disability discharge on 6 October 1862.

Alexander was 18 when he enlisted 27 Oct 1864 at Camp Holmes, near Raleigh, NC for the war. He has three cards in his archival file. 1 Nov 1864 he is sent to the hospital [sick]. 6th Division General Hospital, Camp Winder at Richmond Va. He served about 6 months before the end of the war. He is the father in law of 2nd great aunt. He lived until 20 Sep. 1916.

Enlisted as a Musician on 8 February 1862 at the age of 20. Mustered in Company A, 46th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 16 April 1862. Died of pneumonia on 18 November 1862 at Richmond, VA.

Younger was born abt 1824. He has 5 cards in his archival file. He enlisted at age 40 on 27 Oct 1864. He is captured at Hatchers Run Va. on 25 Mar 1865 and sent to Point Lookout arriving on the 28th. He is released 30 June 1865. Do not know date of death but his will was probated in Scotland Co. NC on 25 May 1907. He married twice. He was the father in law to my 4th Cousin 3 x removed.

England, Alexander resided in Burke Couty, NC he volunteered for service on 5-5-1862 for the war. Present and accounted for until he was captured at the South Anna Bridge on 7-4-1863. He was confined at Fort Monroe, VA and paroled on 7-16-1863. Returned to duty prior to 10-14-1863. he was wounded in his left side at Bristoe Station. Returned to duty, Paroled in Morganton, NC on 5-29-1865. His widow Angeline England files for a widow's pension on 5-5-1924 in Gaston County, NC. Death date and burial location are unknown.

an attorney from Salisbury, NC he was also a legislator for the NC State legislature and delivered the final speech to the legislature before its vote to secede. He volunteered at the rank of 1st Lieutenant and final rank was Captain -- according to family history dying in the second Battle of the Wilderness -- though I've not obtained official info on that.

Little is known about his military service. We only have records of a food ration request and a pension application from his widow, Elizabeth. We can only assume that he was killed in the Civil War, but we have no information on where or how.

Wyatt enlisted on February 15, 1863. He was sent to McPhersonsville Hospital in South Carolina on April 4, 1863 and was sent home on sick furlough, with the furlough being extended to July 20, 1863. Present or accounted for until killed May 10, 1864 at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia.

Stephen from Richmond County NC the son of James Thomas and Charlotte Roper was a clerk and 31 years old when he enlisted in Trenholm's South Carolina Mounted Rifles. He then is found in Rutledge's Mounted Rifles and Horse Artillery.On 30 March 1863 by order of Brig. Gen. W.S. Walker at Pocatalico, SC he was transferred to Co. D 46th N.C. Infantry. He was elected to 1st Lieut of that company on the same day. Nov. 4 1864 he is on a roster of the 46th Reg. NC Vol's , in Cook's Brigade, Heath's Division , Hills Corp, Army of Northern Virginia organized 4 April 1864. He is paroled with his unit near Goldsboro, NC May 1865.

Lt. Henry Clay Latta was my 2x great uncle.He was promoted Full Corporal 1 September 1862. Promoted Full Sgt. 30 November 1862. Promoted Full 2nd Lt.30 March 1863. He was severely wounded in the face at Battle of Fredericksburg, Va. on 13 December 1862,where he acted with distinguished gallantry and refused to leave the field of battle. He was wounded again on 27 October 1864 at Burgess Mill, Dinwiddie, Va. He died from his wounds on 10 November 1864 in General Hospital No. 4 Richmond, Va. Burial not known at this time.

Was my 2x gr. grand uncle. John and his brother James enlisted at early ages. They both were stricken with the measles. James recovered from his sickness, but John died in Goldsboro, NC on 5 May 1862.

William was from Orange Co NC. 20 years old when he enlisted on 2 May 1862 in Granville Co. NC. On 5 May 1864 he was wounded in the Battle of the Wilderness and sent to the hosp. He was captured [ records to not say when or where] Sent to Point Lookout Md. and on to Hart's Island POW camp in New York harbor. Released 19 June 1865 after swallowing the 'Yellow Dog'. He is related by marriage

Pvt Aaron Freeman of the 46th infantry NC is my 2nd great-grandfather. Born in Randolph County North Carolina in 1827. Died on January 19, 1865 at General, Hospital, Camp, Winder, Richmond City, Virginia. Only a few months before the wars end. Buried in Hollywood Cemetery Richmond, Richmond City, Virginia. Also buried in this cemetery is Jefferson Davis president of the CSA with more notables. Of course I never knew him but my heart hurts just knowing how these men suffered. On both sides. Aaron had three small children and a wife waiting at home for his return but, as fate had it this would not be. I created a memorial page for Aaron Freeman on findagrave.com. My great, great grandfather enlisted 03 MAR 1862 in India Company of the 46th. According to my great, great grandmother's 'Widow's Application for Confederate Pension,' he served until the end of the war with the unit.

Feb 5, 1830 – Jan 19, 1907. Enlisted on Mar 4, 1862 at age 28. On July 27, 1864 he was sent to the hospital. He deserted and was received by the Provost Marshal General in Washington DC on Feb 24, 1865. He took the oath of allegiance and was transferred to New Bern NC. Parents: • Rev William H Howard 1819 – 1887 • Mary Jane “Polly” Howard. 1817 – 1855. Daughter of Duncan Melvin, son of John Thomas Melvin Sr., son of Daniel James Melvin Sr.

Promoted to Full Sergeant on 30 Jul 1863. Participated in all major battles of the Army of Northern Virginia, except Gettysburg, including Manassas, the Wilderness, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Petersburg. This is my great grandfather, he was wounded at Sharpsburg and The Wilderness. He survived the war and lived until the 1920's I have copies of his military records and copies of his state confederate soldier pension application.

William was from Catawba County NC. He was 49 years old. Enlisted in Capt Adolphus T Bost's Co [Catawba Braves] His DNA gives his heritage as mostly Native American. After training at Camp Maugum near Raleigh, NC he enlists as Pvt. in Co K 46th Regiment and mustered into Confederate Service on 16 April 1862 at Camp Mangum. His record states he was born in Caldwell, NC is 5 foot 6 inches tall and a farmer. His Regimental record has him present at the battle of Winchester on 15 June 1862 and Malvern Hill on 2 July 1862. He has 3 archival CMR's the last of which states that he was mustered out by substitution on 16 July 1862. He was the father in law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.
