2nd New Jersey Infantry

Joseph enlisted in the US Army on May 25, 1861. He was a private in Co. B. 2nd NJ Infantry Regt. Joseph was wounded at the Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg, MD, September 17, 1862 (part of the Maryland Campaign) and was transfered to Brooklyn Hospital in New York to recover. He was discharged from Brooklyn Hospital on 3 Oct 1862. The National Park Service's Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System lists the following information: Name: Joseph H. He married Jane Elizabeth

Born 11-2-1836, Nobber, County Meath, Ireland. He came to the USA, Jersey City, in 1852. He enlisted on 5-27-1861, mustered out 6-21-1864. Following the war he worked for the government as a bridgebuilder. He moved to Canton, Fulton County, Illinois in 1867, married in 1868, seven children. He was employed at the Parlin & Orendorf Plow Company until his death on 8-25-1906. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, St. Mary's section, Canton. Note: his last name is found to be spelled Carlan and Carlin. Bernard is my 2nd great granduncle.
