11th Minnesota Infantry

Enlisted as August Johanson. Mustered out as August Johnson. During his life he also used the names August E. Johnson and John August Johnson. He died in 1901 and is buried in West Union Church Cemetery, Gotha, Carver Co., Minnesota.

August Kuhne was my gr-gr-Grandfather. He was born 18 Oct 1833 in Prussia, emigrated to the U.S. in 1852 and eventually settled in Hanover, MN to farm. 7 days after the birth of his 3rd child, he enlisted with Company A of the 11th Regiment of MN Volunteers on 24 Aug 1864. Upon completion of his enlistment, he returned to his family and farming in Hanover. He and his wife Bertha went on to raise 12 more children. Together they had 10 girls and 5 boys. August died 2 Aug 1917 and was buried in the 1st row of the Hanover Village cemetery.

Enlisted at Ft. Snelling 24 Aug 1864, Company A - 11th Minnesota. Discharged 26 Jun 1865, Galletin,TN. Appears to have fought in Tennessee. Naturalization record states: 'was honorably discharged from the military service of the U.S.'

August joined Brackett's Battalion Minnesota Cavalry in Sept, 1861, as a second Corporal, which was joined with the 5th Iowa Cavalry. He contracted dissentry in July 1862 and was discharged. In 1864 he re-enlisted with the 11th Minnesota Infantry, 'A' Company, stationed at Buck Lodge, Tennessee, engaging railroad insurgents. Discharged with the regiment, later Sheriff of Sibley County, Minnesota, and Legistator. Died in Nestor, Calfornia. My great great grandfather. Richard Johnson, Ottawa, Canada.

Born in Kentucky in 1834. Mustered in 1 September, 1864, mustered out 26 June 1865. He was a carpenter after the war.Died in 1890, Buried at Spring Lake Cemetery, Scott County, Minnesota. He is the brother of my wife's 2nd great grandmother, Isabell Taurman Ince.

My gt gt gt grandfather had served in Company I of the 5th Minn Vol Inf in 1862 and 1863, but was discharged due to illness. He mustered into the 11th 20August1864 and was discharged with the regiment 26June1865.

Miles was born in 1843 in Blair Co., PA. He enlisted in the Civil War at Caledonia, Minnesota, after his brother's death at Andersonville Prison, Georgia. He died in 1929 at Silver Lake, Cowlitz Co., Washington.

Enlisted as a Sergeant on 20 August 1864 at the age of 26 Enlisted in Company I, 11th Infantry Regiment Minnesota on 20 August 1864. Mustered out on 26 June 1865 in St Paul, MN.
