8th Minnesota Infantry

8th Minnesota volunteer infantry regiment. He was bother to David Marston Clough Governor of Minnesota 1885-1889. He was co-owner of Clough-Hartley Lumber Mill near Minneapolis, MN. He mustered in Aug 14, 1862, as a private, discharged July 11, 1865. He died Dec 28, 1888 at his home in Minneapolis, MN from injuries sustained in a logging accident. He is buried at Clough cemetery, Isanti county, MN. I am looking for photos of my 3 great grandfather.

Clark J Stiles was my gg grandfather. The information about his unit and length of service were taken from records of the Sawtelle Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles, CA.

Enlisted as a Private on 13 August 1862 at the age of 35. Mustered out on 11 July 1865 at Fort Snelling, MN.

Moses Laird is buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman, Kansas with Levi Smith. Moses is buried under a military style headstone. He died March 10, 1891.

John Lashmet enlisted in Company D, 8th Minnesota Infantry on February 29, 1864 and mustered out on July 11, 1865 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. John moved to Kingman County, Kansas in the 1880s with his brother in law Levi Smith.

Enlisted as a Sergeant 1st Class on 20 August 1862 at the age of 41. Enlisted in Company D, 8th Infantry Regiment Minnesota on 17 November 1862. Received disability discharge 16 May 1865.

Samuel was postmaster at Chatfield, Minnesota and at the outbreak of hostilities raised a company and joined the 8th Minnesota Infantry as Captain of D company. He was commander at Fort Pomme de Terre until 1864. Samuel died on 20.11.1884 at Columbus, Columbia County, Wisconsin and is buried at the Hillside cemetery. Promoted from Captain to Major for 'brave and meritorious service' and brevetted Lt Colonel.

Burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman, Kansas. Military headstone with no dates, just Co. D 8th Minn Inf. Levi was from Fillmore County.

Christian, and his brother John were brothers to my GrGr Grandmother. They were just 18 & 16 years old when the enlisted and because of their age, they were kept in the same unit.

John, and his brother Christian are brothers of my GrGr Grandmother. They were just 16 & 18 years old when they enlisted [17 Nov 1862]. Their older brother, Mons, served in the MN 2nd, Company I.

His full name was Friedrich August Boyn. He was in the MN 8th Infantry Co. F from about December 1863 until July 25, 1865. He was wounded in the Battle of Cedars (Murfreesborough).

He was from Princeton, MN. He died around March 15, 1864, very shortly after he volunteered. His birth name was Wilhelm Gustav Boyn.

Served with brothers James & Thomas Sinclair (St. Clair) from August 1862 to July 1865. The 8th regiment was known as the Indian Regiment because of the involvement in the Indian Uprising of 1862. It was a mounted infantry unit. Deployed to south in 1864. Participated in battles in TN, part of Hooker's army in NC, and finished duty in Washington, DC. Unit was praised for toughness because of two years experience in Sioux Indian War on Minnesota frontier. There were 63 deaths in unit. (Much more info available on request).

Born 1841, Roscommon Ireland. Enlisted from Belle Creek, Goodhue Co MN. Was a bachelor farmer. Mustered out at Ft. Snelling MN July 1865. Received $17.50 per month disability pension. Buried at St. Columkills Cemetery, Goodhue MN

This information was on a listing of civil war soldiers. He died in 1864 on a hospital ship possibly the Red Rover.

My gt gt gt gt grandfather mustered in 3Feb1864. Stationed at Alexandria MN. Participated in the Northwestern Indian Expedition in Dakota Territory, battles of Killdeer Mountain and Badlands. Got sick upon the expedition's return to Fort Ridgely, MN. Died of typhoid fever 23Oct1864 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
