16th Kansas Cavalry

Brothers Delorma and George in 14th cavalry, company F

I am trying to find out more information on my great-grandfather.I know he came to Kansas sometime in the 1850's from Michigan. He was born in Ontario, Canada in 1840. It has been hard to find him on any census records. Also is there a photograph of his Company available anywhere?

I am looking for any information on the 16th Calvary Regiment in Kansas during the Civil War. My great-grandfather George Ward served with this unit

Edwin R. LEAMING, b. Feb 1827, Cape May, NJ, d. 1916, CA. Settled in Kansas by 1866; Yakima, WA, by 1888. Son of Christopher LEAMING IV and Hannah TOWNSEND. Married to Harriet PARKER, b. Nov 1827. Official record Film No. M542 roll 5.

Company F, Kansas 16th Calvary Regiment Mustered out on 3 July 1864 Did not survive the war.

My two great grandfather. A stone mason by trade, he built the first weather station on top of Pike's Peak in 1873. Burried in Delta, Colorado.

Alexander Lopeman went by his middle name. His first being the same as his father (Hugh). After Order #11 they moved to near Leavenworth, Kansas where Alexander enlisted in Co. H, 16th Kansas Cav. as a Wagoner. He was known to have been in the 2nd Battle of Newtonia, Missouri (1864). He survived the War and moved back to Cass Co, Missouri. Later to Amoret, Bates Co, Missouri where he is buried in the Benjamin Cemetery. He was my gr, grandfather.

John Jefferson Lopeman moved to the Leavenworth, Kansas area during the War. He enlisted, along with his brother Alexander, in Co. H, 16 Kansas Cavalry. He and his brother were in the 2nd Battle of Newtonia, Missouri, 1864, where John suffered a gunshot wound in his left hand. He drew his first Pension of $12.00. He moved back to Linn Co, Kansas after the war and is buried in the East Mt. Zion Cemetery, in Linn Co., Kansas.

He served with a brother Elijah Tipton McPherson Between 1872-75 Isaac L. and brother Elijah Tipton began and ran a store in Taney County, Missouri near Bradleyville. Isaac L. was a Postmaster between 1872 and 1884. Isaac L. was also a member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Attached to District of the Frontier, Dept. of Missouri, April, 1863, to January, 1864. Unattached, District Frontier, 7th Corps, Dept. Arkansas, to March, 1864. 3rd Brigade, Frontier Division, 7th Corps, to January, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 7th Corps, to February, 1865. Unattached, 7th Corps, Pine Bluff, Ark., to June, 1863 Service:Cabin Creek, C. N., July 1-2, 1863 (Co. "B"). Operations against Quantrell in Kansas August 20-28.
