Aaron enlisted at Red Bank, Virginia. He was taken prisoner and released after developing tuberculosis. According to records, he was issued a Yankee overcoat, walked home to survive the war, but never repaid the US army for the coat.

My Great Grandfather.

my great grandfather, born on 2/1/1817, was 44 years old when he joined the company. Lived until 1905 when he was 88 years old. His son, my grandfather build dams on the Ohio River and later owned a rock quarry in Southern Illinois. My grandfather sang ' I am a Rebel soldier' song to me and my brother and sister when we visited him as children in the 1950's and told us his father sang the song to him for years.

Eli was a preacher by trade. He was captured at the battle of Piedmont in 1864 and was sent to Camp Morton. He was exchanged in March 1865.

Was wounded in the war and thought to be a deserter (which was not true).

Discharged with 'bad knee'

Joseph Samuel Mason, born Nov. 1, 1847, served in the Confederate Army as a member of Col. Henry's brigade on guard duty near Richmond from November, 1864, until the surrender of General Lee, in April 1865. He went into the mercantile buisness for himself and gave the post-office its name of Villa. He was appointed assistant postmaster under the administration of President Grant and his daughter served as postmistress until her death.

Lewis George Mason, born Nov. 13, 1823, died in May 12, 1865, at Fort Delaware Prison from an attack of smallpox, while a prisoner of war. He was captured by the Federal forces at Waynesboro March 3, 1865. His son Joseph Samuel Mason also served as a member.

I have a photo of Stephen Jackson 'Sparrel' Via's headstone, which states his affiliation with Co. B, 36th Virginia Infantry. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetary, Richmond, VA

John Maidon Romans was my two times great grandfather. He was already married and had two sons when he enlisted at age 21. He survived the war, had several children and late in life became a Methodist circuit riding minister in Marion, VA, where he was born and raised.

My GGG Grandfather Pvt. Elijah Shaver enlisted on June 15, 1862 with Co.F 36th Regiment Virginia Infantry (2nd Kanawha Infantry) Co. F 36th Regiment Virginia Infantry(2nd Kanawha Infantry) saw action in the battles of Cross-Lanes, Carnifax Ferry, Fort Donalson, Cloyd's Mountain, Piedmont, Waynesborough. On the Muster Roll he was present from June 15,1862 thru December of 1862. and in December of 1862 thru to February of 1863 he was on a detached service.and sent to Montgomery County,Va. From March of 1863 April 1863 he was present according to the Muster Roll. From May of 1863 to end of June 1863 he was detailed to wagons. From July of 1863 to the end of April of 1864 he was detailed to teamsters. From May of 1864 to November of 1864 he was sent to Montgomery County Virginia..for sickness...according to the muster roll. But according to the Muster Roll on December 14, 1864 he was captured in Sullivan County, Tennessee. (Prisoner Of War) and sent to Chattanooga, Tennessee. And Surrender in the limits of the Department of W.Virginia for the month of April 1, 1865. And then took oath on this date of April 1,1865..

Brother of Elijah. They had two other brothers in same company. My ancestor, George, Died in union prison point lookout Jersey shore of inflamed lung disease. He was captured along with the rest in Waynesboro. I have copies of letters from him and his brothers to their sister, Cass and to his wife, Martha Jane Hilton.

Would like more information on this relative. Knew he survived the war, fathered a son born 5/11/1864. Lifelong resident of Giles Co VA (Cloverhollow). No military history known other than pension papers.

@ http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=15161697 He served with Company H, 36th Virginia Infantry listed in Giles County Virginia in the Civil War where he made gunpowder. He is listed in the 1860 Giles County census beside John B. Miller, who was known to make gunpowder, adding credence to the story passed to W.H.C.'s descendants. He is buried in a small family cemetery in Clover Hollow where his gravestone is illegible and sunken in the ground.

Miss Louisa Snodgrass was actually Tubal Wesley's 2nd marriage. 1st marriage to Mary Ann Porterfield in Giles Co., Va. Dec 14, 1859 I am James Lee Leftwich, G-G-G-Grandson of Tubal Wesley Leftwich.

Born 04/06/1832 in Bedford Co. Virginia to Jabez Leftwich (b. 1792 in Bedford Co. Virginia) and Martha 'Patsy' Jones Early (b. 1794 in Giles Co. Virginia). Tubal was 5' 11' tall, with blue eyes and dark hair. He married Louisa Mae Snodgrass (b. 11/05/1840 in Giles Co. Virginia) on 05/15/1877 in Giles Co. Virginia. They had three children. Tubal was a 1st Lieutenant in the Thirty-sixth Virginia Infantry, Company H, Confederate Army, during the entire period of the Civil war. He took part in many engagements, including the second battle of Manassas and that of Winchester and was wounded three times. He died 10/31/1902 in Madison, Boone Co. West Virginia and was buried in Stallings Cemetery, Boone Co. West Virginia. ----- Film Number M382 roll 33 (2nd Cousin 5 times removed)
