James Marion Wells - 1st Sergeant |
James Marion Wells was the son of William S. and Susan A. (Reinhardt) Wells of Memphis, TN. He also had four brothers who fought for the Confederacy: Charles H. Wells(29th Tennessee Infantry), William Wells (12th Battalion Tennessee Cavalry), Julius T. Wells (4th Tennessee Infantry) and Francis M. Wells (28th Battalion Georgia Siege Artillery). There is very little known about James except his death date of June 1, 1873. William S. Wells was shot in his bed by Union soliders at the close of the war. He was sick in bed at the time and the soldiers were celebrating the Union victory and fired into the home not knowing William was in the home.
