I have recieved William H. Kempers applications for pension from the National Archives. He was listed as Wm. A. Kemper at the home for disabled soldiers in Elizabeth City, Va.

Played a 'silver bugle'. Enlisted 10/17/1861. Mustered out6/29/1862. Enlisted again, as Private, on 5/2/1864, at age 27 years. Mustered into Co. I, 137th Ohio Infantry, on 5/10/1864. Mustered out 8/19/1864 at Camp Dennison, Cincinatti, Ohio. Unit served at Fort McHenry and around Baltimore, Md. Widow Martha A. Passel applied for pension from state of Ohio on 8/17/1896, application #638,593.
