My great-grandfather was born in Tawstock, Devon, England in 1843 and came to the US with his parents, William and Ann Nogle Adams and sister Mary Elizabeth in 1845, settling in Montgomery County, Ohio. He joined in Dayton. He took ill on the boat going down the Mississippi and got hospitalized twice, finally walking several miles to join his Company. He really never regained his health. I have his military file and it is very interesting.
He and his father homesteaded in Dunn County Wisconsin after his discharge from service. I have these papers also plus birth record, marriage of William and Ann, Ann's Christening, her parents, Henry and Mary Parker Nogle's, marriage record all from England.
