3rd Independent Battalion Cavalry

Cpl. Joseph Lewis Bohnert was an immigrant from Germany and enlisted in Cincinatti, OH. He fought throughout (W)VA including Droop Mountain, Carnifax Ferry, and in Gen'l Hunt's (Hunters?) raid to Lynchburg. His unit was called the 3rd Ohio Independent Cavalry Company, not Battalion, which is a separate unit. However I added Cpl. Bohnert here since the names are so similar and there is no listing for the 3rd Ohio Indp.Cavalry Co.

He organized the 3rd Independent Ohio Cavalry Company in Cincinnati, OH. (Captain Pfau was not my relative. My Ggrandfather Joseph Lewis Bohnert served in this Company.)
