Thomas was a merchant in Beaufort, Carteret Co NC. he was 30 years old when he enlisted for the war on 5 July 1861, Elected 1st Sergt. Co A 1st Light Artillery Battery & Engineers. Mustered in at Beaufort. Promoted to 2nd Lieut. 22 Feb 1863 and to full 1st Lieut on 1 Aug 1864. He was captured at Fort Fisher on 15 Jan 1865. His gravestone gives his unit as 1st Lieut. Co F 10 Regiment NC Vol's . He was the husband of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed. Martha J Oglesby born 1841.
