Rank was WAGONER Mustered in Oct. 16, 1862. Mustered out Nov. 4, 1863. Immediately following the August 1862 uprising, Samuel Holes helped to design and build a fort in St. Cloud which was given the name 'FORT HOLES'.

Served in company K,L; as well as 11th MN Infantry He was half Dakota Indian film 546 roll6 Organized at St. Cloud, St. Peters and Fort Snelling, Minn., October 9 to December 30, 1862. Organized for frontier duty against Indians. 1st Battalion engaged in frontier duty until June, 1863. Sibley's Expedition against Indians in Dakota Territory June 16-September 14. Battle of Big Mound, D. T., July 24. Dead Buffalo Lake July 26. Stony Lake July 28. Missouri River July 28-30. 1st Battalion on duty at Fort Ripley, and rest of Regiment at Fort Snelling, Minn., until December, Mustered out October 20 to December 7, 1863. Age 23; Mustered In Nov 1, 1862 Mustered Out Dec. 7, 1863. Listed in Minnesota in the Civil and Indian Wars 1861-1865 Book. Page:541 Brother of Martin Gunderson. They enlisted and mustered out on the same dates.

Martin Theodore 'O.' Gunderson b. 4 Feb 1846 in Royken parish, Buskerud Co, Norway Immigrated: 4 Aug 1856 d. 21 May 1920 in Soldier's Home Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota and b. Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis. Served in the Civil/Indian War 1 Nov 1861 to 7 Dec 1863. Private in Co. M, 1st Regiment, Minnesota Mounted Rangers.
