Charles Peel was born in England in 1838 and came to the USA with his parents in 1842. He was living in Paris, Michigan at the time that he enlisted in 1862. He wrote many letters home to his wife (Lucille) some of which are now at the University of Michigan Library. After the war they moved to Osceola County, Michigan were they raised 8 children. He died in 1902.
