Christopher Columbus Stith - 4th Sergeant
|
Christopher C. Stith joined Co D, 68th Kentucky Infantry at age 18. He served as a Sergeant and served for the 3 months that this company existed to protect government property and assigned for duty in Lawrence County. In 1869 he moved to Wright County, MN and homesteaded a tract of 80 acres at Victor township. In 1912, he returned to his boyhood home in Kentucky and met Captain Joseph Halten, who was also his cousin. The Captain informed him that on account of the disbanding of the company that he (Mr. Stith) had no standing as a veteran. Congressman C.A. Lindberg interested himself in the matter and in 1912 Mr. Stith received his long-delayed discharge. (VOL II 1915 Wright County, MN History)
