My great grandfather was mustered on Oct. 14, 1864 and discharged on Sept. 19, 1865. My father, who is 96, is trying to find out if his grandfather ever saw any action in these final stages of the war.

Joseph G Harter - Bugler   
Joseph enlisted in Company B on 24 Nov 1863 as a bugler. He was promoted to full bugler and mustered out at Fort Leavenworth on 19 Sep 1965. His brothers Madison and Lucas also served in the Union Army. Madison died at Prospect Hill and Lucas died in the explosion of the Sultana.

The onset of the regiment in 1864 to shortly after Battle of
Nashville when he was discharged for disability (illness). Did not accompany the Regiment to Kansas. Lived in Indiana until March of 1920 when he past away of natural causes. Have many pictures of him in later life, but nothing during his war service

Abner Dean - Private   
Abner Dean was enlisted at Terre Haute, IN on Dec 24, 1863 by Captain Goodwill, and was mustered into Company D. at Indianapolis on Jan 21, 1864. While in service he became ill and died on Aug 6, 1864, at the regimental hospital at Larkinsville, AL. He was buried there but the body was later moved to the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. Abner was a farmer by occupation and the son of Elijah and Malinda (Combs) Dean of Vigo Co., IN. early settlers of Vigo Co.

I grew up hearing about my Great, Great, Great Uncle Mordecai. I can remember my Grandma reading me letters he wrote to his family. His saber was stored at my Great Aunts house but was lost when the house was destroyed by a tornado in the 1960's. Luckily his letters and pictures have survived.

Henry Sidenbender enlisted in Co. M, 11th Indiana Cavalry (126th Indiana Vols) in Jan. 1864. He had previously served in Co. A, 2nd Indiana Cavalry, and had been wounded at the Battle of Perryville (KY). He was with the 11th at the Battle of Nashville-Franklin in Nov-Dec 1864, and for their duty in Alabama and Kansas. He mustered out with his regiment at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, in Sept. 1865.
He served in Co. M with his brother Samuel.
