George Kasper Dittmar - Private   
George 'Kasper' Dittmar was my great-grandfather's younger brother and enlisted with his older brother, John Dittmar, in February 1865 from Jo Daviess County, IL. He and John served on picket duty in Memphis and along rail lines in Tennessee for the remainder of the war, and were mustered out in September 1865. Kasper returned to Illinois after the war, but after his wife died in 1870 he moved to Iowa and remained there for the rest of his life.

John Dittmar - Private   
John was the younger brother of my great-grandfather, Erhardt Dittmar, who had enlisted in the 96th Illinois Infantry in 1862. John and his younger brother, Casper, enlisted together in the 153rd in February 1865 and were mustered out in September of that year. He returned to Jo Daviess County, IL after the war, married, raised a family and became a prosperous businessman and farmer.
