Monroe McClanahan was the 17th child of Capt. John McClanahan who headed Company B, 83rd Illinois Infantry. After John's death, Monroe enlisted in Company A, 130th Illinois Infantry on May 30, 1864 and served until October 14th, 1864. He served under his brother, Capt. William Steele McClanahan.
