3rd Georgia Reserve Infantry

The 3rd Georgia Reserves served as guards at Camp Sumter and Camp Lawton and escorted prisoners to and from several locations. All Georgia Reserve units were called into combat action during the South Carolina campaign against Sherman's forces.

Enlisted in Macon, May of 1864

The 3rd Georgia Reserve Regiment was formed in April, 1864. They were guards at Andersonville Prison until August, 1864 when sent to Macon to help defend the city during Stoneman's raid. They fought at the Battle of Columbus on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1865.

Elijah was born in 1848 and served in Co. F. of the 3rd Ga. Reserves. Reportedly captured at Macon Ga. He is buried in the Singleton cemetary near Tazewell (Marion Co.) Ga.

Enlisted 20 or 21 Apr 1864 at Columbus, GA. Wounded 06 Dec 1864 at Pocataligo, SC. Discharged 27 Apr 1865. Interment at Old Saltillo Cemetery, Hopkins Co., TX.

Company I, 3rd Georgia Reserves. Confederate. Camp Sumter. Hospitalized May 2, 1864 to August 31, 1864 at Camp Sumter Guards Hospital.

Was in Co. A of Findlay's Battalion (a/k/a/ 5th GA Reserves) and at the same time was listed as AWOL from the 3rd GA Reserves. Was stationed in Camp Oglethorpe and Camp Cobb in Bibb County GA. Was also at Camp Anderson and Camp Sumpter in Macon County GA (Andersonville). Was stationed also at Camp Lawton in Jenkins County, GA near Millen. He received a slight wound in right hip on December 9th 1864 at battle near Coosawatchie Station, SC. (Corporal)
