37th Georgia Infantry

Singleton was my GGG-Grandmother's husband, but I'm not sure he was actually my GG-Grandfather's (George Lee Rose) father. The 37th was consolidated from 3rd Infantry Battalion. Singleton was in Company C, 3rd Inf. Batt.

Joseph Smith was my g-g-g uncle. He quarreled with his brother, Dr. Francis Marion Smith, over secession and went with the Southern Cause. During the war he met a gentleman soldier from New Orleans surnamed Armand. He was much impressed by this man and agreed to change his name to Armand which he did at some point after the end of the war. I believe that LTC Smith must have resigned during 1864 or at the time the 37th was merged with other units into the 54th Ga. Inf. Any Armands from Georgia or Florida who cannot find a Confederate ancestor might want to contact me and I can search for a family connection.

Ephraim was my grgrgrandfather.

Great,Great Grandfather; Enlisted May, 1861 @ Spring Place,Murray Co.,Ga. Signed for 3 yrs. or the end of the war. Co. B, 3rd Battalion. After Stones River unit became the 37th Ga. Regt. Co.A; Battles: Stones River,Chickamauga, Atlanta Campaign, Franklin, Nashville, Bentonville. Walked home to Murray Co. Ga. Buried at Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetary,Murry Co. Ga. 11/27/1912.

My great grandfather. Confirmed by grave marker and application for Confederate Soldiers Pension in Florida (1920). Enlisted 21 July 1861. Re-enlisted April 1864. Wounded in Battle of Resaca on 15 May 1864.

Wilson L. Kennedy joined Co. C 37th Ga Infantry in March 1864. He fought in the battles of Kennesaw Mountain and Atlanta. In the battle of Nashville, he was captured and taken to Camp Chase, OH. where he died of Variola (small pox).

Mike as the family called him enlisted in April 1862 and served in Tennessee.....he was wounded at Hoovers Gap Tn. June 24th 1863....he was shot in the forehead and had a silver coin placed over the wound ...though debilitated family sources say he survived till 1897....

Milton enlisted at the age of 16. He was wounded and captured at the battle of Franklin Tn. He was sent first to a Nashville Hospital then to a military prison in Louisville, ky. He was then sent to Camp Chase in Ohio and then forwarded to the worse prison the Union had, Pointe Lookout, MD. He was released June 5, 1865, at the age of 18.

Enlisted in 9th Georgia Volunteers Battalion in December 1862. Taken prisoner at Missionary Ridge in November 1863 and sent to Rock Island Prison Camp in Illinois, where he died 7 February 1864.

George O'Feral Wynn is my ggf and served in the unit until the end of the war. He is buried in the confederate cemetary in Johnson Co. Texas.

Enlisted as a Captain on 11 June 1861. Commission in Company C, 3rd Battalion Infantry Regiment Georgia on 11 June 1861. Transferred into Company I, 37th Infantry Regiment Georgia on 6 May 1863. Promoted to Major on 1 August 1863. Mortally wounded on 14 June 1864 near Lost Mountain, GA. Died from wounds on 16 June 1864.
