Charles enlisted in the 19th Battalion Georgia Cavalry. Company A was known as the Ocmulgee Rangers. Date of Organization:14 Oct 1862. Muster Date: 27 Dec 1862. It became part of the 10th Confederate Cavalry. Charles was wounded in the First Battle of Dalton and Rocky Face mountain in Georgia on Feb 26th 1864. His right index finger had to be amputated. He was awarded a $5 a year pension for his finger in 1897. He died in 1898.

Robert was born in 1847 in Muscogee County Georgia. Proof of his service survives in the form of his gravestone in Linwood Cemetery, Columbus, Muscogee County Georgia. The stone application lists his place of enlistment as Muscogee, Ga. with dates of service 12 Feb. 1864 and discharge 3 May 1865. He would have been about 17 at enlistment. He was the son in law of my 3 cousin 3 x removed Susan Ann Elizabeth Chapman [ 1833 - 1871 of Columbus, Muscogee, County Georgia. Deo Vindice
