Ggggggg Uncle I think The M.P. Bates in the 8th Alabama was Mickijah Proctor Bates and that he was the Brother of William C. Bates,1st Alabama Cavalry U.S. and Also a Brother to Lucinda (Bates)Frederick.

Newton, nickname Bunk, and his brother James Tipton served in this unit and the 62nd Alabama Infantry. Newton also was at the Camp of Instruction, Talladega, Alabama. They are buried at the De Armanville Methodist Church Cemetery in De Armanville, Calhoun County (then Benton County) Alabama. Both brothers survived the war.

Born 1839 near Sawyerville, Greene County, AL. Joined 8th Alabama (Ball-Hatch) Cavalry and served entire war, rising to 1st Sergeant, age 24. Was a planter after war, married a Miss McGee, died at home at East Port on Warrior River near Sawyerville (now Hale County) in 1879.

8th(Livingstn's)Alabama Cavalry,Great great great great great Uncle. Conscripted Against his will. Was a ardent Union Man. He then desersted from this command and joined a band of Union Gurrellas in Northern Alabama under a man he called 'Captain Stewart'Thay resestied against the Confederates and helped other local Union Men get through the lines so thay could enlist into the Union army.

Jul 4, 1847 – Nov 24, 1922. He enlisted July 19, 1864. He was sent from Blue Mountain to Columbus MS as a guard. Paroled Mar 1865 at Mount Pinson AL. Parents • Thomas Melvin 1816 – 1877 son of John Thomas Melvin, son of Daniel James Melvin • Sidney Cylena Brown 1814 – 1883

Jasper Enlisted as a Private, was Promoted to Corporal a year later, and within months, was promoted yet again to 2nd Lt. He was part of Bowies 8th Alabama Cavalry, and later, Wades 8th Confederate Cavalry.

Born 12 July 1846 in Pushamatoha, Choctaw Co., Alabama. Enlisted in Jan 1864. Captured at Rome, Georgia 13 Oct 1864. Sent to Camp Douglas Military Prison and released on 17 June 1865. Moved to Leon Co., Texas after the war, where he died on 11 March 1926.

Company and Regiment are per his Pension application in Texas. He enlisted in Coffee County in Aug '63 and was discharged in May '65 according to said application.

Born about 1823 in Ramer, Montgomery County, Alabama. Enlisted Spring 1861, Pine Level, Montgomery County, Alabama. 6th Alabama Cavalry, Co. M (Colvin's Regiment) as Private. Also served in 8th Alabama Cavalry, Co. C (Livingston's Regiment) as Private. Wounded at Battle of Vicksburg and sent to Shelby Springs Confederate Hospital. Died on 19 March 1864 in Shelby Springs Confederate Hospital, Shelby County, Alabama. Burial is at Shelby Springs Confederate Cemetery (Old Soldiers Grave Yard), Shelby Springs, Shelby County, Alabama.

Jeremiah was about 16 Years old when he enlisted in the Spring of 1864. Joining his brother Benjamin In Co E 8th Regt. Ala. Cavalry. He was from Clifton, Wilcon Co. Ala. His unit surrendered at Citronelle Ala, 4 May 1865. He has 2 cards in his archival file.

Benjamin was 17 when he enlisted in the new unit formed in April 1864. Joining with Hatch's Battalion. Under command of General Pillow. Saw heavy action at Lafayette, & Rome Georgia. Moved to West Florida. Surrendered at Gainsville Fla. The data for Benjamin comes from the Pension Application submitted by his 2nd wife Frances J Pearl. He died in Lamison, Alabama on 28 Oct 1906. He was my 6th cousin.

My 2nd cousin five times removed. Born February 14 1847. Elected 2nd Lieutenant on February 17 1864. Surrendered with his unit in May 1865. Died March 6 1896.

Enlisted at age 18. Survived the war.

This regiment was made up of men from Alabama & Mississippi. It was also known as the 2nd Regiment, Miss & Ala. Cavalry, Pope Walker Battalion Miss. Cav. Formerly: Beall's Battalion, Ala Cav. Brewer's Battalion Ala Cav & Miss. 4th Cavalry Battalion [Baskerville's]. The consolidation's and restructuring continued as in May 1862 it is redesignated 8th Confederate Cavalry [Wade's Regiment] The information on Jacob comes from his pension file. He was born 17 Feb in Ruckersville, Elbert Co. Georgia. IN 1860 he is 14 years old in Nixburg, in Coosa County, Alabama. He enlisted at about age 17 in Jan 1862 at Youngsville, Alabama, Tallapoosa County, later renamed Alexander City. Enlisted in Co I. Capt. John Wright's Company. Battles: Shiloh, Shelbyville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Atlanta Campaign. Wheeler's raid into Tenn. Wounded at Statesboro in 1864. I have not found his archival records. Jacob died in Dutton, Jackson County Ala, on 6 Aug 1927. Buried in the Pleasant Hill Cem at that place. We are related thru a distant marriage on my Chapman line.
