Henry Alexander Bostick - Private
Henry Alexander Bostick served in Co. A. & B. of 60 Va Vol. Inf. I 'think' that there were at least three H. Bostick's in the 60th VA. Two died during service and One was captured and survived the War. They served in the 108 VA Militia, 59th Va. and 60 VA. They are listed as follows:
H. Bostick,
H. Bostic,
H. Boswick,
H. Bosteak,
A. Bostick,
Henry Bostick,
H.A. Bostick,

I 'believe' 'my' Gggrandfather Henry Alexander Bostick was known as Alex. He was married to Elizabeth Jane Holmes-Bostick who I think applied for the Confederate widow's pension on Dec. 7th, 1864. (I think she was the Elizabeth Bostick who married Overton Reid in Kan. Co. WV in 1870 although she may have fudged her age a little.)

I went to just outside Eagle Rock in SW Virginia looking for my relatives and found a headstone with the following info: Samuel Broughman, Pvt Co F 60 VA INF, Confederate States Army 1844-1923. This headstone was flat on the ground, and in front of an older one, maybe the orig. headstone that marked this soldier's grave. There was a faded Confederate flag next to the headstone, so you would suppose someone is still remembering this gravesite. I am putting this info on this site for informational purposes....I don't know anything about Pvt. Broughman.

Francis Asbury Buhrman - Lieutenant
enlisted at Gauley Bridge, then in VA, captured in Waynesboro (in 1865), sent to Fort Delaware. Was given a field commission to Lt. on Aug 15, 1863(of which I have a copy, along with his officer's recommendation). His correspondence with family menbers (in Maryland) remained as family oral history through the past generation, (tried to enlist their help to get him out of POW prison). He returned to southwest VA raised a family, three boys, William Price (1873-1968), Francis Marvin (1874-1960), Abraham Wesley (1877-1965) and one girl, Mary Eyler. He went to Emory & Henry College, graduated 1870, became a preacher/farmer like his father, 1881 he died of TB, was buried in the Price family (wife's family)cemetery just outside of Glade Springs in SW Virginia. His grave marker is marked 'Rev.' Francis Buhrman, just like his father's. Married Virginia Crabtree Price (1844-1932). Father was Abraham (buried near Eagle Rock in Botetourt County, along with brother Adam C Buhrman. His father served in 'Local Defense'. He was my great grandfather, Abraham Wesley Buhrman, Sr the fourth child was my grandfather, and Abraham Wesley Buhrman, Jr., the first of six children, was my father. It is thought that Francis' log cabin is now near the campus of Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va. I can't verify that, on a recent trip there, it seemed like everyone had one in their backyard.

Greetings Southern Comrades,

I am requesting your assistance with getting the message out for a very important cause. The cause is the preservation and restoration of the 60th Virginia Regimental flag located in the Museum of the Confederacy. This flag is about to be lost to time and is in dire need of preservation. On August 3, 2012 permission was granted by the Museum of the Confederacy to seek donations to protect and preserve this valuable piece of American History. The flag has not been previously conserved or treated and was among the 282 unidentified regimental flags held by the U.S. War Department that were returned to The Museum of the Confederacy (MOC), per Joint Resolution No. 43 of June 29, 1906. It was delivered to the MOC on July 13, 1906. While the museum was located within the White House of the Confederacy, the flag was stored there. When the new museum facility opened in 1976, it was transferred into that building (where it resides today).

The condition is of such a concern that the conservator has recommended that this flag be advanced 'at the top of the priority list to halt any further loss.' There is much damage from battle and time, but this is a very viable piece for restoration. Much work needs to be done and soon.

The expense for restoration is $16,500, but we believe that we cannot put a price tag on what this flag represents. Many men were wounded or died beneath this flag, marching straight into the enemy. In our hearts they have all marched into immortality.

Please go to: http://www.60thvirginiainfantryregiment.com to obtain more information about this hard fighting regiment and help save this flag.

Greetings to everyone,

I am presently researching a new book for release in 2010, entitled “Independence or Annihilation.” This book is based on the ideologies and experiences of the 60th Virginia soldiers. I am extremely interested in hearing from you and any other descendents of the brave men who served with the sixtieth. A lot of the detailed information obtained about individual soldiers comes from descendents like yourself, so it is important to document your heritage for future descendents or researchers.

I look forward to hearing from you and any other 60th Virginia descendents.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Acting Major John L. Caynor was wounded twice in battle and was acting commander of the regiment for much of the time from the summer of 1864 until his capture at the Battle of Waynesboro on March 2, 1865. He was imprisoned at Fort Delaware and later released on May 20,1865.
