John Rives Morris - Private   
John Rives Morris is my great-great grandfather. He enlisted on 14 May 1861 as a Private in the Virginia Life Guard, which became the 15th Virginia Infantry. He appears on muster rolls for July-Dec 1861 and Jan-Feb 1862. He surrendered on 17 April 1865 at Richmond, VA and was paroled on 18 April after taking his amnesty oath. He was an overseer at Walker's factory in Richmond, working for John Stewart Walker, Captain (later Major) of Company B, 15th Regiment. Walker was killed at the battle of Malvern Hill on 1 Jul 1862. After the war, Morris returned to work at Walker's factory in Richmond and named his eldest son John Stewart Morris after Walker.

John T Pearce - Private   
John Pearce was discharged in 1861 due to illness. He was able to run the Union blockade and settle in Bethel, CT to work in the family trade, hatting. His family joined him in 1869. His sister, Sarah F. Pearce, lost her fiance John McWilliam, KIA, and married P.T. Barnum''s blacksmith in 1872. She lived to 109 and was the oldest Confederate nurse. If she had lived one more year she would''ve seen me born and 6 generations in the family. John Pearce eventually became a reporter for a Danbury newspaper that was owned by a man that served with the Co. C, 17th Connecticut Volunteers.

Thomas Andrew Layne - Private   
If one were to travel to Hanover, Virginia and visit the Confederate War Monument there, you will find my great grandfathers name listed along with the men of the 15th Infantry, Company C. Thomas Andrew Layne survived that war and returned home to Beaverdam, Virginia. He married my great grandmother, Mary E. Layne and had children one of which was my grandfather--- Leonidus Layne and my grandmother, Martha Thomas Beasley Layne, had eight children who were the following--- James Layne ' Jimmy ', William Layne, Joseph Layne, Frank Layne ( My father )Wesley Layne. Daughters were-- Mary Layne, Martha Layne and Minnie Layne. Most of the family is buried in Elon Baptist Cementery, Rather Glen, Virginia. I wish that I had a photo of the Army of Northern Virginia, 15th Infantry, Company C. If anyone has a photo or knows how to get one please contact me.We Laynes come from a long line of military service to our country and are damn proud to be from the SOUTH !!!

John G. Tiller, of Hanover County, Virginia enlisted in Co. C 15th Virginia Infantry (Patrick Henry Rifles) on 7-29-1861 at Camp Adams. He was appointed corporal on 5-16-1864. He served in that company throughout the War of Northern Aggression and was paroled at Burkeville, Virginia on 4-14-1865. He married Francis Tolliver Taylor, also known as Fannie, on 6-10-1869 in Ashland (Hanover County) Virginia. His widow applied and recieved a widow's pension for his Confederate service on 9-25-1918.

John Arnold enlisted on October 12, 1861, (King George County) as a Lieutenant. He was wounded on October 11, 1863, at Brandy Station and hospitalized in Richmond and died on January 17, 1864. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA.

He is my 2nd Great Grandfather.

William Anthony Stone of Hanover County, Virginia enlisted in Company E 15th Regiment Virginia Volunteer Infantry (Ashland Grays) on 10-16-1864 at Ashland, Virginia. He served in that company throughout the War of Northern Aggression and was paroled at Ashland on 4-25-1865. He was survived at his death by his wife, Katie C. Stone, whom he had married in Hanover County on 9-11-1867.

Charles Coleman Taylor - 2nd Lieutenant   
Charles Coleman Taylor, known to family and friends as 'Coleman', was born in Hanover County, Virginia. He enlisted in Co. E 15th Regiment Virginia Infantry ( Ashland Grays) on 4-23-1861 at Richmond, Virginia and was mustered in as the company's 2nd Lieutenant. He was appointed to that rank on 7-1-1861 and served in that company until 4-25-1862 when the company was reorganized. He then enlisted in Company G 4th Regiment Virginia Cavalry (Hanover Light Dragoons) and served in that company throughout the War of Northern Aggression. He was paroled in Richmond, Virginia on 4-20-1865. During his assignment to the Hanover Dragoons he also was detailed as a scout for Generals James Ewell Brown Stuart and General Fitzhugh Lee. He married Mary Francis Vass of Caroline County and lived out his life after the war in Ashland, Virginia (Hanover County). He is buried at the Woodland Cemetery in Ashland.

Chastain H. Taylor - 1st Lieutenant   
Chastain H. Taylor was born in Hanover County, Virgnia. He enlisted in Company E 15th Regiment Virginia Volunteer Infantry (Ashland Grays) on 4-23-1861 in Richmond, Virginia and was appointed 1st Lieutenant of the company. On 5-7-1862, at the end of his one year enlistment, he resigned from the company because he was a co-partner in the firm of J.W. & C.H. Taylor, which had entered into a contract with the Confederate Government. The firm had been contracted to transport arms, ammunition, and supplies for the Confederacy and when in October of 1864, there was no longer a need to transport non-existant supplies, he rejoined his old company on 10-29-1864. He served in that company throughout the War of Northern Aggression until after the surrender at Appomatox Court House and refused to sign a parole. He lived out his life in Ashland, Virginia and is buried in the Woodland Cemetery in Ashland.

Absent wounded through Dec. 1864. Captured in hospital April 3, 1865 and sent to Newport News, Va. where he was paroled June 10, 1865.
