John T Pearce - Private
|
John Pearce was discharged in 1861 due to illness. He was able to run the Union blockade and settle in Bethel, CT to work in the family trade, hatting. His family joined him in 1869. His sister, Sarah F. Pearce, lost her fiance John McWilliam, KIA, and married P.T. Barnum''s blacksmith in 1872. She lived to 109 and was the oldest Confederate nurse. If she had lived one more year she would''ve seen me born and 6 generations in the family. John Pearce eventually became a reporter for a Danbury newspaper that was owned by a man that served with the Co. C, 17th Connecticut Volunteers.
