Rufus was born in 1844 in Flyn's Lick, Jackson County, Tennessee. In 1860 the census finds him at 14 years old in Beat 1, Fannin County, Texas, the Post Office is at Bonham. He enlisted 1 July 1863 at the age of 17 in Co. C. Colonel James Bourland's Regiment Texas Cavalry. [Border Guards] The Regiment was organized during the Spring of 1863 and served in the Trans Mississippi Dept. for the purpose of guarding the Northern Border of Texas. It confronted Federals in Indian Territory and Texas. On 1 Jan 1865 it reported 4 Officers and 564 men fit for duty. It surrendered June 1865. He has 3 cards in his archival file. One of the CMR's authorizes Rufas leave to go to his home. He died in 1911 in Choctaw Co. Texas. He was my 3rd cousin 3 x removed.

Goodman was born 4 May 1824 in Washington County, Indiana. The 1860 census finds him in precinct 6, Hunt County Texas. The Post Office is at Caddo Villa. He enlisted initially in Co E 2nd Regiment Texas State Troops for 6 months. The men were between 18 & 45 years old. The historical data on the CMR is as follows: The 2nd Tx Cavalry, State Troops was organized in 1863 with10 companies A thru K. Some of the companies appear to have served in an organization known as the 13th Battalion Texas State Troops prior to the formation of the 2nd Regiment. And some of the men subsequently served in Bourland's Texas Border Guards and Capt. Jones Texas Cavalry. Goodman died 9 Nov 1898 in Hunt County, Texas. His wife drew a pension for his service. He is buried in the Camp Ground Cem. Terrell, Kaufman Co. Texas. He was my 3rd cousin 4 x removed. Bourland's Cavalry Regiment assignment was to protect the Northern Texas Border. It confronted the Federals in Indian Territory and Texas. On 1 Jan 1865 it reported 4 officers, and 564 men fit for duty. Field Officers were, Col. James Bourland, Lt. Col. John R Diamond, and Major Charles L Roff we in command. They surrendered in June 1865.
