Henry K. Schnell - Corporal
Henry is buried at New Oxford, Adams County, PA. His marker says he was a Civil War corporal in Co E, 101st Regiment, PA Vol.
Civil War record shows that he enlisted on 2/24/1865 as a Corporal in Company E, 101st Infantry Regiment, and mustered out on 6/25/1865 at New Berne, North Carolina. This Regiment was active in Virgina (Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks) and North Carolina. Our Henry was in one of eight new companies which were raised in 1865. The orginal regiment was captured at the battle of Plymouth, NC, in 1864, and the enlisted men were imprisoned at Andersonville until the summer 1865; half of those died. Some did escape or were exchanged, and those men who were on leave or absent at the time the regiment was taken, kept up the regimental organization at Roanoke Island, NC. This is the group that Henry joined, although the new Companies were never incorporated with the existing forces.

John Defibaugh - Private
John Defibaugh was born in Bedford, PA. When he enlisted in the Civil War he was residing in Morgan Co., Ohio. He was captured at Plymouth, NC. He is listed as a prisoner in Andersonville Confederate prison. He died there on August 5th or 15th of 1864 leaving behind five children orphaned as his wife Sarah E.(Halliwell) Defibaugh predeceased him in 1859. The children George H., John H., Isaac H., Joseph T (*) and Anne Defibaugh were taken as wards by Elijah Hallowell. John is listed as dying from a bleeding disease know as 'Anasarca'.
