LOOLKIN FOR INFORMATION ON PATRICK CUMMINGS,BORN 1840 IN IRELAND. HE INLISTED IN THE U.S. ARMYFOR 3 MONTHS MAY1ST TO AUGUST8TH 1861. WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED. HE SERVED WITH COMPANY'D',24TH INFANTRY REGIMENT. PENNA. VOLUNTEERS. HE ENLISTED IN PHILADELPHIA.

PATRICK CUMMINGS ENLISTED IN THE U.S.NAVY,SERVED AS ALANDSMAN ABOARD THE USS PRINCETON AND THE USS ,SAUGUS AS A MONITOR.
HE WAS WOUNDED IN ACTION DURING THE SECOND BALLTLE OF FORT FISHER,NORTH CAROOLINA. THE WOUND OCCURED JAN 13 OR 14,15,1865. HE LOST HIS HEARING IN HIS LEFT EAR &DAMAGED HIS LEFT SIDE. HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE NAVAL SERVICE AT DUTCH GAP,VIRIGINIA,MARCH26TH,1865 AND RETURNED TO PHILA. TO WORK HIS TRADE AS A SHOEMAKER. HE APPLIED FOR A PENSION IN 1890,[HE WAS 52 YRS OLD AND WAS AWARDED 10.00 DOLLARS A MONTH.HE DIED JUNE 22,1894 AT THE SOUTHERNBRANCH,HOME FOR DISABLED VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS. HE LEFT A WIDOW, NAMED MARY AND A YOUNG DAUGHTER ELLA K..AND RECEIVED 10.00 WIDOW PENSION, 8.00 FOR MARY & 2.00 FOR ELLA K TILL HER 16TH BIRTHDAY. THEY LIVED AT 712 JAMISON ST. PHILA.PA.

IHOPE SOME ONE COULD STEEER ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO GET OFFICAL DOCUMENTATION ON ABOVE INFORMATION. MY GRANDSON IS VERY MUCH INTERESTED IN THE CIVILWAR & WHEN HE FOUND OUT ABOUT HIS GGGGGRANDFATHER SERVING IN THE US ARMY & THE ,NAVYHE REQUESTED IF I COULD GET THE TRUE DOCUMENTATION FOR HIM HE IS 15 YRS,OLD I DON'T WANT TO DISAPOINT HIM. HOPE YOU CAN HELP
