John Nicholas Evans was born 18 July, 1834 at Shandon, Ohio, the son of John Evans and Sarah Nicholas Evans. He enlisted in the 118th Ohio Infantry Regiment on 22 August 1862 at Lima, Ohio, and was mustered out with the unit on 24 June, 1865 at Salisbury, NC.He is reputed to have been held as a POW in a confederate Prisoner of War Camp, but no record of his confinement or release has yet been found.

David is a gggg-uncle of mine. He enlisted for 3 years Aug. 21, 1862 as a Pvt. He was wounded May 14, 1864 at the battle of Resaca, GA and died May 15, 1864. He was originally buried at Resaca but was later moved to Chattanooga National Cemetery, plot:L 9093. He was born about 1830 in Lehigh Co., PA. He had a wife and two children.
