George Cornelius was born on Oct. 6, 1842 in Nussdorf, Rheinpfalz, Bavaria. He came to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1859. He fought in the Civil War and later became a citizen. He returned to Cincinnati and opened a grocery store near Elm & 14th Streets in Cincinnati. He died September 3, 1910.

In Camp Parole near Cincinnati, OH until March 1863 when exchanged. Operated against Guerillas and CS cavalry raiding railroads in KY, TN and AL. Mustered out in June 1865 in AL.
