Thomas Johnston - Sergeant   
Thomas Johnston, born in Holmes County, Ohio on
March 11, 1837. He and his brother, Andrew,
served in the 102nd-Infantry. Thomas served in
Company A. He entered as a Corporal, and left
as a Sergeant. Thomas died in 1919 and is buried in Effingham, Illinois. He was my great-great grandfather.

Enlisted as a Corporal on 9 August 1862 at the age of 33.
Mustered in Company B, 102nd Infantry Regiment Ohio on 6 September 1862.
Promoted to Sergeant on 11 November 1863.
Captured on 24 September 1864 at Athens, Alabama and confined at Cahaba Prison.
Killed by the explosion on the SS Sultana (MS River) on 27 April 1865.

Ellsey A. Sloane - Private   
He enlisted at 18 from Mansfield, Ohio on 9 July 1862 and was mustered into Capt.Zody's company on 6 Sept 1862. He was captured as a prisoner of war near Athens, AL on 24 Sept 1863. He was mustered out on orders from Tupler General Hospital in compliance with a telegram from the War Department on 3 May 1865. His POW records indicated he 'perished on the steamer Sultana' However, that was corrected on 27 Apr 1865 and he was discharged in Columbus, Ohio very much alive.

Served with the 102 Ohio Infantry, Co D as a private, along with his son Ellsey A. Sloane. He was on guard and garrison duty. Discharged after first year due to sickness.

Lucius Remington - Private   
Lucius is my great-great-great grandfather. He was in the 102nd Regiment Ohio and was captured and in Cahaba Prison in Alabama. He was on board the steamship Sultana when it exploded and died of his injuries in the US General Hospital, St Louis, MO.

Lucius Remington - Private   
Lucius Remington was my great, great grandfather. He enlisted at age 40 in 1864 and was taken prisoner in September that same year. He was confined to Cahaba Prison and released in April 1865. Unfortunately, he was on the ill-fated steamship, The Sultana, surviving he explosion only to die a few week later in the hospital at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

Jasper Newton Shaver - Corporal   
Jasper N. Shaver, son of Andrew & Mary (Artman) Shaver enlisted (in Ashland Co., Ohio) as a Corporal in Co. K, 102nd OVI, on 14 August 1862 at the age of 20. Discharged at Clarksville, TN, on 27 August 1863 with Surgeon's Certificate of Disability.
