My grt.grandfather. Stephans twin, James served alongside him through the entire war. They were from Middletown, Ohio. The twins ran away from home when the call went out, lied about their age. They were just 16.Direct decendants of Thos. Skillman, N. Y. 1664.

Thomas (b. 1837) was the oldest son of of James and Mary Wheeler, and enlisted early as a Pvt. in the 75th Ohio Volunteer Infantry who saw quite a bit of action early on in the Civil War. He was captured at the Battle of Bull Run and was later released and rejoined the regiment as an Orderly Sergeant. He was soon promoted to 2nd LT, and later still to 1st LT of Co. A, before eventually going into battle at Gettysburg, where on the first day of the Battle he was shot through the wrist.....refusing to leave the field, he was then struck in the groin, and before he could then be removed, was struck once again in the spine.....eventually dying of his wounds on July 28, 1863 in Gettysburg.....his body was shipped home by train to Allegheny Co, PA. The family was later notified of his posthumous promotion to Full CAPTAIN!

Francis Mallen enlisted into unit at its inception 1861. Fought in all unit engagemnts until captured at 2nd Bull Run. He was interned, Libby's Prison. Months later, was exchanged, but captured again while on picket duty, during Winter Defense of Washington 1862; exchanged, after short confinement. Was captured third time, July 2nd 1863, East Cemetery Hill, Gettysburg: later exchanged. Fought at siege of Charleston. Fought with his unit as Mounted Infantry thoughout entire Florida Campaign. His horse was shot out from under him in Battle of Gainesville. Discharged Jan. 1865 with illnesses. Died 1917 Soldiers and Sailors Home, Marion, IN.
