George Wingerter - Corporal
|
George enlisted in the 47th Ohio in June 1861 and served through all the campaigns and battles of the regiment. He was 26 when he enlisted. The 47th Ohio Infantry had the most medal of honor recipients out of all the Union Army regiments. He is buried at the Dayton National Cemetery in Ohio where he died in 1895. He was an immigrant from Germany. He marched with Sherman to the sea and then up through the Carolinas and the end of the war. He marched in the Grand Review in Washington DC in May 1865. He was a cousin to my paternal great great great grandfather.
