David, my great-great grandfather, volunteered in Somerset, Perry Co., OH at the age of 22. Mustered into Co. G Sept. 23, 1861. After the Battle of Stones River he was selected by his company for Rosecran's Roll of Honor and the Elite Battalion. On the first day of the Battle of Chickamauga he was wounded. A musket ball entered at his wrist and traveled up his forearm lodging below his elbow. He recouperated at Brown Hospital, Louisville, KY. On Feb. 15, 1864 he was transferred to the Invalid Corps. He never regained full use of his arm and after the war was awarded a small pension for his disability.
