Enlisted in Company F, 10th Cavalry Regiment Ohio on 6 Sep 1864. Mustered Out Company F, 10th Cavalry Regiment Ohio on 27 Jun 1865 at Salem, NC. Thomas Deiter - Private

Thomas DEITER was born in 1844 in Buffalo, NY. The son of Joseph Sebastian and Catherine Fellinger Deiter.
By 1851 his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio.
As an adult, Thomas was 5’10” tall, had gray eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. His occupation was shoemaker.
Thomas Deiter enlisted at the age of 19, with his 22 year old older brother, Ferdinand Deiter, in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 22, 1864, and became a Private in Company I, 10th regiment of Ohio, Cavalry Volunteers. He served for 1 year and 5 months and 8 days, from December 22, 1863 to May 30, 1865.
After the war, Thomas returned to Cleveland and married Mary Frederick. They had at least one child in 1884. His brother Ferdinand was captured and sent to Andersonville Prison and never heard from again.
