William was 20 years old when he joined at Newbern, Craven Co. NC on 20 August 1861 to help defend his homeland from invasion. Enlisting in 1st Co. I NC Light Artillery. On 15 April he is admitted to the CSA Hospital #4 at Wilmington NC for acute bronchitis. On 15 April 1863 he is transferred to Co.A 67th Regiment NC Infantry.

James' Co A 1st NC Light Arty was transferred to the 67th NC Infantry on 28 March 1863. He was promoted to the rank of Captain . Commanding was Col. J.N. Whitford. James' war time experience destroyed his health and he died at age 30. He never married and in his will he left his small estate to his mother. He was from Craven County NC.

Thomas enlisted 7 Oct. 1861 at Camp Gaston, near New Bern NC. He was 18 years old. In March 1864 he was transferred into Co A 67th Regiment, NC Troops. He was captured at Swift Creek NC on 26 April 1864 and sent to prison camp at Camp Hamillton Va. He is then sent to Point Lookout Md. and on to Aikins Landing where he was exchanged on 24 Fe. 1865. He died 10 June 1912.
