Ed Cline was born in Cabarrus Co., North Carolina on December 8, 1836. Enlisted in Co. B, 20th North Carolina Infantry on August 1, 1862. Remarks on a roll which was not dated: 'Engaged in the Battles of South Mountain, Wounded at Sharpsburg (Antietam), and engaged at Morton's Ford.' Admitted to Chimborazo Hospital No. 5, Richmond, VA, on Sept. 2, 1862 for being wounded in the hand. Appears on Roll of Honor for his service at the Battle of Sharpsburg. Returned to duty and served honorably in General Robert E. Lee's Army of Nothern Virginia 'til the end of the war. After the war, Ed and his family relocated to Panola Co., MS. Remarried after the death of his first wife, to Mary E. Love in 1888. Federal Census of 1900 reports as follows: Moses E. Cline 63, Mary E. (Love) Cline 36, Edwin C. Cline 12, William S. Cline 9, Ethel Cline 6, Robert Lee Cline 5, Cooper Cline 3, Thomas S. Cline 1. Ed Cline was my Gr-Gr Grandfather; father of my Gr-Grandmother Ethel Cline Webber.

He suffered from Rheumatism He was detailed to guard the Presidnt's Mansion at Richmond. Became disabled and assigned as hospital attendant on order of Gen Lee. He was the father in law of my cousin 4 x removed. He survived the unlawful northern attack and died in 1906 in Duplin Co. NC
